Chuckie is watching The Last Descent . About the young man that got stuck in the cave in Utah. After a few minutes of me trying to nap through it, I got up and left the room. I’m not putting myself through that torture and I don’t know why anyone would.
Same with Marley and Me.
You can have that crap.

What about Ol Yeller?

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

I'm 100 percent with you, Smash. Real life sucks enough without watching sad movies.

Exactly. I want entertainment to take me OUT of reality, not to depress me

For the most part, they tell important stories that should be told .

They're also cheap to make and OSCAR bait.

Sad movies keep the spirit alive by reminding us how precious we are.

To be great, a movie needs to make you run through the full gamut of human emotions. A good ending will tie a whole movie together. Sadness in a movie is fine, but I like a happy ending.

The reward of heaven at the end, makes a human life after it has had its highs and lows, triumphs and defeats, great. I wish I had faith that is how life ends. Thinking of this analogy, does give me more hope.

I see what a lot of you guys are saying. And I don’t mind a little hiccup in a movie that may make me cry. But this one was bad from the gate. Guy got stuck early in the film and you knew they weren’t gonna get him out. Just non stop suffering and I can’t deal with that.

I have not seen the movie, but have seen interviews with the survivor. I think the extreme triumph of him being able to successfully remove part of his arm, in a situation where most people would die and return home makes the movie not entirely sad and pretty inspiring.

I just flew back from Mexico, on the plane was some movies. I watched American Sniper, at least I think that’s the name of it. Great movie sad ending. Based on a true story. Once off the plane I seen an elderly guy with a Marine hat on, had to thank him for his service. He was a VN vet.
