You would think taking my boots off outside would appease....but nope. I find myself banned from my abode. For now. Maybe she'll throw some hydrogen peroxide and baking soda out the window for me.

I always just shot them in the trap and set a new set nearby taking them out of the trap a couple days later.

I always just shot them in the trap and set a new set nearby taking them out of the trap a couple days later. We don't have Civets here but a properly handled Skunk pelt is beautiful. I used to carry the ingredients with me to wash them right away and kill the smell. They are easy to skin and flesh and lately have been bringing more than Coyotes.

Having leather boots is a %^*#}>£¥ when dealing with stinkers. Wearing a leather belt while putting up skunks is almost as bad as the stink stays thru multiple washings with peroxide, baking soda and Dawn. My wife couldn’t smell it. But I could. ‘Took 2 weeks for the smell to go away—-to my satisfaction.
Never too old to learn

Teacher, canvas is just as bad ...my Carhart trapping jacket seems to hold those smells a long time. The good thing is you can use that jacket to your advantage when predator calling....lol.

You don't want to shoot civets. They're too valuable to take a chance on damaging them. I sold 7 last night for $500. .....wow very nice

I skin them all, that is what a trapper does. I wash them in "the solution" and skin them wet, easy to find the glands, extract, remove, then finish skinning. Not a bad job at all, but I don't mind the smell, keeps the women away from me.

Tell that woman its her job to skin polecats. Won't be long she will be as immune to that wonderful keeps nontrapping riff raff away odor as you are. If she balks tell her your skinning them on the dining room table so you can take your time and do it right.

Make sure she remembers the Dawn dish soap too! Yup!
The first bottles of Coca Cola contained 3.5 grams of cocaine. That's how our grandparents were able to walk to school uphill both ways in the snow.

Carl you need to carry a jab pole and get some practice in using it; I agree never ever shoot a civet or striped skunk. You damage the pelt and loose essence in that process. I actually was just in the process of stepping on the tail so that I could heart pinch him but he whipped up that tail at the last second and beat me to the punch. Probably the jab would be easier for both of us.

I have never figured out how you can make a jab pole work on civets. It seems like their rear end is always pointed at you. They have an uncanny ability to survive the strongest conibear sometimes. I find a chest catch and a run pole up in the air are the surest methods to insure they are past the great divide when you show up.

A forked stick to hold the tail down , the jab and things are all better on the home front. Brought my wife along to take the picture. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/02/full-698-247889-aba95756_5047_4994_ac29_d9a21d8fce01.jpeg) And another 120 that the freezing weather put out of commission yesterday connected last night as well. Craziest looking civet I've ever seen!

After my dog got sprayed by a skunk and I tried everything to get the smell off I tried Nature's Miracle skunk remover and hands down the best thing to use just spray and wipe off. X2! I keep a spray bottle in my truck just incase.
