The price we pay for bare roads in winter.

AKDOT had been on the salt kick for twenty years or so. They seem to have gone to primarily using sand instead this winter.

Why? I live in North Idaho, if you can't drive on snow and ice you better move back to California. The stuff only works when it isn't adding more snow on top of it, so if it is snowing you still have slick roads to deal with, plus all the idiots who think it should be fine to drive 10 mph over the speed limit, same as they do in the summer, because they are spreading salt on the roads. I'd rather have a rig that wasn't rusted up and having things break than bare roads.
