Great pictures! I used to hunt them in eastern Oregon when I was growing up. We would hunt chukar in the canyons, and then find Huns in the lower areas where ranchers had fields of wheat and fruit trees planted around huge machinery buildings. I loved hunting both birds, but enjoyed eating the dark-meat Huns much more than the white-meat Chukar.

Just doing what I want now.

They are great tasting. Like you said seem to find them in old vacant farms around wind break machinery yards etc..

dry spring for nesting and a good insect hatch when the young come out, with broods of up to 15 young, and a little snow winter a food they can access = more eggs
our Xmas bird count went from 20 birds ( 4-5 groups) to 180 and almost all parties saw coveys in Winnipeg
Gray partridge

makes you a little humble when a covey breaks on which bird to take a lead.....that is where the side-by-side guns shine

Cool bird, I was lucky enough to get one years ago while hunting in South Dakota.

My cousin and I have been tossing around the idea of trying to hatch some and release to see if it will help to bolster the local population. I’ve spent money on far dumber things I guess…lol

I like ruffed grouse slightly better, but not by much.
There used to be a lot of them in my area, but they have disappeared for quite a few years now.
Beautiful pictures!

Awesome pics Tray thanks for the share. Huns are a wonderful game bird. I am continually amazed, when hunting ND the lack of cover which the birds seem to thrive in. Quite a sporty target for the o\u. Great on the table too.
