I have this client who took a direct hit on both hands from a belisle 280. Broke a bone in one hand. He was trying to clear some leaves and such from it that I had in a spill way after a recent rain. Thought he was doing me a favor.
Well, he admitted he should have left it alone and let me handle it. Lesson learned he said that he'll never go near one again and let me do the trapping.

Lesson learned the hard way. I've been there myself. The belisle 330 club. A club I have no interest in joining again.

I'm glad I've only had the pleasure of snapping 110s on my fingers. Seems getting caught in a 330 is a right of passage of sorts but I'd rather not experience it.

I know a guy who once got both hands up to his wrists in a 330. He was lucky enough to be able to get it unwired, walked out to a logging road, flag down a log truck driver, instruct the driver to fish a piece of hacksaw blade out of his pocket and cut the trap off.
I think the embarrassment was the most painful part.

The only trap I have snapped on my fingers was a #4 coil. That hurt! But I can’t even imagine the pain from being hit by a Belisle 280!

I have a knot in the back of my right hand from a broken bone in a 280.

Normally I would say that I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. In this instance I see a valuable lesson learned along with a bit of negative reinforcement as a good thing for messing with what he had no business touching.

I had a 0 jump spring I thought I would stick my thumb in. Guess it got a nerve because it hurt worse than the MB550 that got me

I got bit by a 160 years ago and nothing broke but man did it hurt! Right across the palm.

A friend of a friend got his leg caught with a 330 and they just barely saved his leg

He learned the hard way

Had a little 120 Victor on my thumb in super cold conditions, that was tough! And then a 220 BMI mag hit me on the same hand ...that trap left some scarring.
Can't imagine a 280...lesson learned.

Got hit by a belisle 280, just one spring, right above the thumb knuckle.

Pretty sure I peed myself a bit. No way would I want to feel both springs.

Both springs of a Belisle 280 are indescribable BAD!

After powering my gloved hand out, and seeing the bloody, peeled skin from my knuckles to my fingertips, I lay in the logging road in a fetal position for about 30 minutes.

Gives me chill bumps to even think back about that incident.

Haven't seen his hand. Both got it. But the left hand has the broken bone. I forewarned him and others he let's fish the pond to not mess with them. BUT.......... Hard lesson learn.
I know when I got wacked by a 330 belisle. It took 3 months for the bruising to go away. Didn't break anything. Hand swelled up like a softball . Got in a hurry to pull as I was headed to the coast for some r&r. Stupid mistake.
I have slowed way down when setting and trap pull.

Yeah..but a complete closing jaws adds a whole new level of pain.

I’m sorry but have a real hard time believing this one. I watched beaver peeler stick his foot in one. It wasn’t comfortable for him but the humiliation of doing it infront of me hurt worse than the trap. He has also spent considerable time with both hands in a Belisle with no serious side effects.

I’m just glad I have not been in one this year, I have been in 330’s but not a 280 yet, I’m thinking they might be worse. Pulling some traps last year I got caught in two sets back to back. I’m a slow learner I guess. Tore my waders on that trip too.

I got my hand caught in a Victor 220 once. Can't imagine getting caught in a 280 Belisle.

I doubt it. But anyone can be sued. If it happens, I'll deal with it in a court of law. Inside a court room I've seen many of times while in uniform. Truth and common sense usually won out. I'll have my ducks in a row. That's way I'm a LLC and carry liability insurance. Crap happens.

I can believe it. My trapping mentor had a Belisle 330 clamp on his leg after he sliped on the snow and got his foot stuck into it. It took him awhile to get help, and by the time he did, the trap had cut the circulation off from his leg for so long that he didn’t have any feeling in it. Once they were able to pull it off he was able to regain blood flow and felling. He swears that if it had been on there for much longer, he doubts he would have two legs still.

Caught my wife by the ankle in a 330 this fall. She decided to cut through a pinch point and was going to carry out the beaver I just removed from a float. Blind set 330 was in the channel and I was busy resetting when bang !

She was making quite the fuss !

In 1974 I got caught by both thumbs in a 330, remember it well. I reset a beaver run and a piece of ice floated through just as I was finishing the set. I had to walk 3/4 mile and cross 3 barbed wire fences to get to the truck and a rope. That hurt........

Done it twice. Also a Koro wolf trap and a SC 4.5 . Between the three, the 330 Belisle made the biggest lasting impression.

Closest I ever came to getting caught in a 330 was when I had to release a snapping turtle that was caught by the shell in it. Creates two problems: Getting bit by the turtle or getting caught by the trap. Took a while, but I managed to avoid both.

I think the smaller the size of the Belisles the worse the bite. Been whacked by a 280 and a 160. The 160 was exponentially worse!!!!

I got hung while trying to disarm a 160 Belisle. I kept my fingers away from the area of death, only for the slowly closing jaws to grab aholt of the meat on side of my hand below my pinky. The way the jaws of those traps articulate, when you compress the springs and open the jaws, they pinch you even harder when you open the jaws. I ended up wringing off. I didn't lose any meat, but I don't see how it would have been any more painful if I had.
