yup you would stay ahead of it cleaning ever time you used them.

Don't know if it's true but I've been told that the light gray patches come from the graphite they put on the powder "leaching" back out of the steel... And it isn't anything to worry about as far as barrel cleanliness is concerned.

Correct? Incorrect? I don't know. I'm not a metallurgist or chemist.
