I just couldn't get them all in the same picture

when you can see the underwings like those eagles....they are 2-3 year old bald eagles, not Golden

We get Eagles migrating through every year at the Plantation. We were saddling horses one morning and got to watch an Eagle catch a rather large bass out of the pond in the pasture. He had to wing walk across the water to get that bass on the bank and then spent about 15 minutes eating that joker. We estimated about a 5lb bass he took out.

Years ago I shot a drake mallard that was still flying but slowly losing altitude flying up the creek. A bald eagle came out of a pine tree and intercepted it midair. I've seen them feeding on lots of roadkill and other carcasses but that's the only time I watched one kill something.

United we stand.

Drove up to an eagle that was eating roadkill. The dead animal was just maggots and hair. The eagle tried to fly off with it and it fell apart.

Yes, they eat dead stuff.

Drove by a catfish pond a few years ago and saw an eagle with a fish in its claws. An osprey took it away from the eagle, only to have a seagull steal the fish from the osprey - all in midair.

I was watching one several years ago when they were not as common to see around here. I had just decided it was a bald egal when it tucked it wings and speed down and smoked a mallard on the water. it carried it above the water about 10' for 40 yards and dropped it. waves eventually pushed it to the bank and the egal never cam back for it that I saw.

it was outside duck season and I'm sure the eagle didn't have a license or stamp. I guess something eventually water the duck.

They are starting to give the crows and grinners a run for their money when it comes to road kills. The eagles think bigger in general around here. See them on the deer carcasses more than other species.

Possum are about as far down the food chain as a 4 legged animal can get I have seen where a roadkill was being fed on by either a buzzard or possum and than they became a victim of another car striking them Now we have a buzzard and a possum both killed while eating roadkill It is a sad refection on the so called survival of the fittest concept God is considered to be the creator of the universe and the creatures that are part of that And he is thought to be perfect in that creation I am not smart enough to know if any or all of that is true But the possum surely pushing the edge of maybe not quite perfect

We have lots of bald eagle here and I see them eating carrion all the time. They love deer guy pile and my carass pile. I fish in the bays of lake Erie 6 days a week from spring till fall. They feed around me every morning. Almost all the fish they get are already dead or wounded/dying on the surface

Both for sure. Have seen many on a dead pig pile.

Thank yall for your replies.
It's been very interesting reading your posts.

Here bald eaglea aren't as plentiful as out west but are on the rise so if people here see one it' a big deal and they still have alot of mystique about them.

Carrion eating tendencies was Ben Franklin's main objection to the bald Eagle as the national bird, He favored the Turkey.

Bald eagles do both. I usually see them catching and eating salmon, but they also don’t seem to mind eating a roadkill moose.
