This will be my first season. If I get to go... my dad and I put in for a couple of public land hunts but didn't get drawn😭😭
Fortunately I made a connection at church and might be able to go with him. I can't wait

Jealous man! I got a late start to this addiction. This is only my 16th season but I went full bore from day one! I was lucky enough to be introduced to traveling early. Realized it can be done relatively cheap and most states have plenty of public land opportunities. If you’re willing to put in the effort you’ll find turkeys! I’ve missed only a few opening days, but that was babysitting so my daughter-in-law could go. My wife says the only reason I have a job is to be able to turkey hunt, lol. I enjoy ALL hunting, but if all seasons came in at the same time I’d never kill another deer, duck, or dove. All my time would be devoted to turkeys.

Agree 100 percent.
I’m mighty happy that turkeys don’t breed in the fall lol!
Killed my first long beard when I was 11 years old by myself. Shot him at 7 yards. That hooked me.
Nearly 350 longbeards and almost 5 decades later, I’m anticipating the first time I get to sit down to a gobbler like it was the first time.
Love it.

I'll be kicking off in Wyoming, grabbed a Montana tag too and then back to NJ for our season, and may throw in a Vermont tag since I will be up there for a weekend in May.

Worked a lot of birds last spring here in NJ, but didn't fill any tags. Called in a bird for my husband, so at least one of us was successful. After such a dismal season I said, we are going out west again LOL

You know, haven't hardly seen a bird the last 6 months, numbers been sliding last 6 or 7 years.

Til today...

Already broke the ice with a Florida bird. Our season (GA) opens at the end of the month and my son and I leave April 25 for Washington/Idaho/Montana. Should be a fun season!

I don't know when they actually start breaking up in our area. I too am seeing some of the largest flocks the last couple weeks I have ever seen. Most flocks I see are 10-30 birds. Stopped last week and counted roughly 70 and quit.

Same up here. Been seeing decent flocks and yesterday saw one with 90+ birds. Quit counting at 90 to get to the dump before it closed…..

Probably only hunting a few states this year.

Supposed to be planning a trip to Texas for Rios.

Thought about hitting GA this year, but will probably just go fishing.

Good luck to all the turkey hunters, make sure to stay away from my spots until I’m done.

Did some burning yesterday and today and the turkeys are flocking to it. One area had about a dozen hens and a gobbler. Saw 2 gobblers and 2 jakes together in another spot. And the spot we just got done burning a few hours prior had 4 stud gobblers and 6 hens. That’s just North of the creek. I know there’s at least 2 gobblers South of the creek at the very back of the property too. Should be a fun season. I’d seen a group of 6-7 jakes back in January, haven’t seen them since, but I’m sure they’re still around too.

I tried it a couple of years, just can't seem to get too exited about it. About the only thing that I have less interest in hunting is hogs. Not dissing on you guys who are into it, I just don't get it...sort of like bass fishing.

I was like you at one point. I was into bass fishing and turkey season was during bedding season. My son was given the opportunity to go and I had to tag along. Something about that hunt ignited a fire in me I didn’t know existed. It became an obsession. Killed in my State then got introduced to out of state hunting. Decided I wanted to try for a Grandslam. Got that and then wanted a Royal Slam, got that and now it’s just hit different states. Some places I’ll keep going to just because of its beauty and challenge. My wife claims the “only” reason I work is to be able to turkey hunt. If deer, duck, dove, and turkey seasons all came in at the same time, I’d never kill another deer, duck, or dove.
