Nasty ol thing them cottonmouths are. Everyone and there dog thinks a watersnakes a cottonmouth here in kansas lol Can you give me a clarification on that. Is a water snake the same as a water moccasin? I've always been told that water moccasins were poisonous and that cottonmouths and water moccasins were the same thing.

Water moccasin is a type of water snake(non-venomous[snakes don’t carry poison]). A cottonmouth is venomous and thicker. They also swim mon top of the water.

My dad was raised in your neck of the woods and he always considered a water moccasin as another name for a cottonmouth. Water snakes were fish moccasins.

Water Snake, the snake is harmless if you don’t count the surprise factor or anything you might fall over or run into getting away. LOL, or the post exposure clean up!

The water moccasin or cottonmouth, Agkistrodon piscivorus, is a semi-aquatic pit viper found throughout the Southeastern United States and into West Texas (see Image. Cottonmouth Snake). [1] Their 2 common names derive from the white-colored membranes in its mouth and living near water sources. Sep 26, 2022

Water snakes are nonvenomous, but the ones I’ve encountered they’re very aggressive That's for sure. I've had them chase the boat here trying to at us. lol They can mean little suckers.
