That is a very interesting observation you have done. Chemicals aren't a natural thing so they do harm on many fronts.

The mink decline parallels Covid. Studies in whitetail deer have shown half of them have tested positive for Covid. Considering mink are especially susceptible to Covid I think that’s reasonable. One way Covid levels is measured is in sewers. If it is in sewers I’d think streams would also contain it. My opinion.
