For the fellow asking about it and what needed done for his mark 2. Here is what I had done to mine. I had it cut down to 4.25" so all ammo is subsonic, the sight was moved back and I had them make a thread protector out of the piece of barrel they cut off. Bought that at 18 will be 45 this year. Have shot more bullets out of that than most all my other guns combined and sure have taken a pile of game and varmits with it. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/03/full-53884-253388-1000001507.jpg)

I was going to post a Pic with a suppressor on it but didn't see one right away. Probably all on the kids guns somewhere wherever they have them. They are always off shooting some varmit or something.

My Mark II was crazy accurate right out of the box.Didnt do any custom work to it. O that one had no issues at all. But back when I got my first .22 suppressor they were not main stream like they are now and there were not any factory threaded options on anything i would be interested in. So I figured may as well cut it down so all ammo stays subsonic since it didn't add any more to the cost of having it threaded. and gave me enough to have that thread protector made from it. These two are also very accurate and still factory with no plans to change anything. A single 10 and mark 2 government target. Shop had bought aout a collection from an estate. They were basically new in the box. Prices very high bit He took 100 off each one since I bought them both so they followed me home. Figured it would be hard to find them in that shape and they would be great for the boys. I'm still waiting to see what kid like what gun before I give them to them. May end up having to find another singe 10 or mark 2 if they both like the same one.. Or buy one of each so they can both have one. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/03/full-53884-253410-1000001509.jpg)

I'm curious what cutting and threading cost? I have a stainless browning buckmark that I love. When I got my suppressors last year, I looked at getting a threaded barrel for it. They seemed to start at $250. I could get a complete new pistol (4" bull barrel buck mark) for $350 from buds, so that's what I did. I couldn't see any point in spending the money to modify an 22 pistol when I could just buy another in the configuration I wanted for so cheap. I could have sold the original for nearly what I bought the second one for (which would work out sorta like "free mods"), but of course I kept it. buds link ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/03/full-59077-253414-img_4597.jpg)

Seems like I heard a guy saying he called a local place and it was 125 to get a rifle threaded now. Probably not including a thread protector or any extras like moving sights. Still You're correct it makes more since to buy a threaded host if buying something new. Back when i had most of my stuff threaded nothing was factory threaded except AR stuff for flash hiders and everything else was custom. At least to my knowledge. . That said I have only bought 3 rifles factory threaded and one threaded barrel for my glock. The rest I had threaded but was years ago. Today I want everything factory threaded if it's offered. Just makes more since and saves money and time. Browning buck marks are one of my favorite .22s probably because my uncle had one and it was the first handgun I ever shot whan I was probably around 10. Add in I rolled the target every shot and my uncle made a big deal about it when I was young and impressionable and it stuck. On the metering sound test they are always louder suppressed due to the open ejection on both sides of the slide. But that's with a sound meeter and not as easy to pick up with the human ear. They are great little guns.

Had a new MK IV Lite 22/45 and the thing was a stove piping/ FTE machine. Got rid of it and went with a Buckmark. But, I have always wanted a MK II.

Ah, I didn't realize it was so long ago you had it done. That make sense. These days if a person needs a threaded barrel, ISTM the first step ought to be pricing a new gun and checking the resale value on the old gun. I paid for threading on an AR-10 I really like last year, but its about a 1200-1500 $ gun. I like it and its accurate. I didn't want to roll the dice on the accuracy of a new gun in that price range. I also chose to overpay slighly on the threading service to let the suppressor company do it (they do thousands of them, and then its "one throat to choke" if alignment issues damage the suppressor). I could also see someone paying for cutting/threading on a gun they're personally attached to.

Can anyone recommend a suppressor friendly holster for a ruger mkIV I had a cheap uncle Mike's I cut the bottom off of that worked BUT the hooked back front sight would hang up on the bottom of the hoster and beyond irritating it was also a safety issue. the last few years mine rides in a back pack and gets taken out to shoot pesky squirrels when deer hunting. I have a cousin that has been doing leather work and plan on having him make me 4. One for my mark 2 with suppressor, one for the mark 2 government and another for the single 10. Maybe the forth for a black hawk in 45 colt but I think it's so close in size to the single 10 one may work for both. . Do you know anyone that.is good with leather. I'm sure we have a few here that are but would probably need the gun to make it.

So they didn't really make the cap out of the same piece they cut off right? How'd they cut it off and leave the threads? They really machined the end of the barrel and then machined a new piece to screw on right? Just curious. Nope the barrel was long enough to cut off and the cut off piece beyond the threaded section is what was used to make the thread protector. So yes it's part of the barrel. I think it was 5 and 5/8 or so factory so cuting it to 4.25 left a piece 1 and 3/8's" long that was cut off to make the thread protector out of. Going from memory on original barrel length so may be off some but it was more than 5 and under 6. Hope I explained it well. Sometimes it makes since to me but only because I know what im trying to relay. And I realized I said I had Tim at SAS do the work. that's Supresed Armorment systems A suppressor manufacturer that used to be local but is now in Nevada. Good work great guy but hard to get ahold of.
