Guys I have a question last year. I made cat gland lure . Didn't grind up the cat glands just added urine turned out great
Well this year I had a good cat season out of state. Ground up the cat Glands all clean. Used pure bladder cat urine and let sit. Had them in plastic container under the sink in the house. I would check them once in a while and stir them. Well a month in I looked at them and it looked like I added pepper. So I reached out to a lure maker friend he says add sodium benzoate. So I did. But now 2 months in it seems to be back again. Is it just breaking down. This is all new to me. Thank you. Here's a couple pics.

I can't see what they are very well but they may be parasite larvae developing? Or spots of bacteria/ mold developing. They appear to be symetrical and of the same size which seems odd for bacteria in single form.

Stick a few with a needle to see how they respond and get a magnifying glass to examine them more closely. Animals carry lots of parasites, eggs and larvae which can develop in the right temperature conditions in a few weeks / months.

But how can I fix this. Or kill it if it is what you guys are saying I put sodium benzoate in there last week to stop the process. But seems to be more pepper if you will. I appreciate your guys help .

And the one picture with the black on the lid. I took that piece out a few hours ago it's dried up And no more black and smells cat . Idk

It looks like the black on the female reproductive tracts. Did you save those in your mix?

All I save is the anus. And 5 to 6 inches of the intestine cleaned out. And the bladder that's it.

Since you’ve already stopped the process just go ahead and add some methyl paraben, if it’s fungal that will take care of it.

If it’s parasitic, freezing it through and through should stop it.

Just a few random suggestions. Next time use Glass containers for the aging/rotting process on small batches of high value glands. Sometimes clear plastic has issues?

Your preserved glands should be better? If allowed to age at room temp vs frozen all summer, providing they are preserved/winterized correctly.

Consider rotting down some glands all summer or longer before preserving them. Stay away from the direct sunlight and stir occasionally.

Time and Temperature!!! Two key ingredients when making great lures.

Mark. They where caught Dec,Jan,Feb. Froze. Came home ground them up topped with pure bladder urine. Had in my house under the sink, room temps. Would stir occasionally. Started noticing the pepper looking stuff in there a month down the road. So I talked a to lure maker out of new Mexico. He said I would add the sodium benzoate incase it's got some issues . The glass jars I will use next year thank you sir

Agree with using the glass jars. If you have a Walmart close by, they usually have the half gallon size in a set of 6 or 9. I put just a little over a quart of gland material in each jar. That allows for expansion and space for blending. I have a couple of cheap igloo coolers I inherited and I put the jars in the coolers (after I've stopped the rotting process with SB), then bury them in the ground until fall. Once the weather has cooled off significantly, I dig them up and finish them. Correctly aging material is one of the most important parts of the the lure or bait making process, IMO.
