You can put an apple in Brown sugar to keep it fresh for over a year. Might work on bananas as well but you'll get more like days/weeks out of it at best not months.

Interesting question Vinke. Ironically, I have a similar but opposite problem. What is the best way to keep the kitchen from smelling like fish even when you haven't cooked any fish?

Don't leave out raw fish?

But in all seriousness acid will kill a fish smell, so lemon juice or vinegar both work well. I keep a spray bottle of vinegar to douse things with lingering scents.

I keep them in the refrigerator they don't ripen as fast as sitting on the counter.
