Neighbor invited us over for a Passover meal. Sheep and goat, all kinds of plant food. Was interesting and a good meal. First time for me.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

My wife and I went to a Passover dinner 35 years ago. Best lamb meat I ever had. It was an interesting evening.

We had Seder lunches in grade school at Passover pretty often. I remember Steven Krist, in about 5th grade, spitting out the bitter herbs, which were parsley and mouthing off to our teacher, who got pretty ticked at us, when we all pretty much agreed with him. It was a Christian Seder and we had a prepared script we had to follow.

It was in some ways similar to the Stations of the Cross, which we had to do every Good Friday, where they forced us to recite a bunch of words about what Jesus was going through, how it was our fault and how sorry we were.

Went to buy lamb for easter dinner yesterday. Was going to buy racks for 7 people. $75.00 each. Bought a bone in leg, for $9.00 lb.

Who does smoked Polish Kielbasa? That is supposed to be the traditional Easter meal in some circles. Gonna be a spiral sliced ham here.

Our family's tradition was to eat Polish sausage for breakfast/brunch, and then a ham dinner in the later afternoon.

Also, for longest time I was confused about celebrations of Passover/Easter. Hanukkah/Christmas. Finally discovered they have nothing to do with each other. Totally independent religious celebrations that by coincidence, happen at about same time. Remarkable how far I got in life not knowing that.

There is also the confusion of why we celebrate Easter (Christ version) and the Easter bunny........but that is left for another time.

Passover and Easter are definitely linked as Christ was crucified during the passover week and many believe the last supper was actually the Passover Seder. Whether it was or wasn't the historical events of the final judgement of God upon the Egyptians with the angel of death killing of the firstborn and the resultant freeing of the Israelites from bondage is the direct precursor to God's fulfillment of prophecy in His Son's sacrifice.

You should have gone to the auction at Mt. Hope. They run many thousands of lamb and sheep through every Wednesday and usually even more so at Easter.

Last Monday, I picked up 123 old layers from a reseller/hauler in London, Ohio, who hits most of the auctions. He had probably close to 70 head of lamb he had just picked up the week before to sell.

Pushed by the later roman emperors, and kings and bishops to control the people , You tend to do what the big bosses tell you, took awhile but they finally won...

Actually, you can thank Ireland for the christianization of Europe.

While Christianity did develop under the Roman Empire it did not become the defacto state religion until much of the western empire was in decline and was being over run by the pagan Franks and Goths.

Christianity up to that point had been an often persecuted minor religion in the empire that had grown among the lower classes. Roman Britannia had its own Christian adherents among the Romano-Britians and escaped much of the persecution due to it's isolation from the rest of the empire. From there missionaries such as Saint Patrick would move into Ireland developing the Insular Celtic branch of the church. Then came the withdrawal of the empire and resultant collapse of the Western Empire. Brittania would be invaded by the pagan Saxons, Gaul by the pagan Franks, Hispania by the pagan Visigoths, and Itlay by the pagan Goths. While the Goths and to a lesser extent Franks and Visigoths would adopt the local religious practices they were not by any means a full adoption of Christianity.
BTW, interesting factoid Constantine who would become the Eastern Emporer in Constantinople and declare Christianity the official state religion originated in Brittania.
So as the western empire collapsed and reverted back, though it had never been officially Christian, into paganism and paganistic practice and heresies the Insular Celtic Church retained its core doctrines. It would eventually be the source spring from which missionaries would venture into Charlemagne's Europe to establish universities and religious orders that would bring back Christianity to Europe.
