I do mine 60/40, acetone to paint. It makes the mixture less viscous and the traps dip better. I usually do 2 coats.

I think I did 60/40 as well. Op you want it thin. You can always dip again. If you paint is to thick it gums up the trap. I have 2dz now that I dipped in to thick of paint and I’m going to strip them clean and redip them.

I’m thinking of giving it a try this summer. Do most dip once or twice?

I only dip once, I mix mine 50/50 or there abouts. I buy a five gallon jug of acetone, a couple gallons of rusty metal primer and a quart of black paint, I think beaverpeeler told me that mix. it makes a chocolate brown color trap. the acetone evaporates pretty fast, makes a nice thin coat. I mix this in a concrete or mortor mixing tub from any big hardware store I can even fit 12X16 MTP traps in it

50/50 rusty metal primer to acetone. I do a coat, let it hang for three days and do another.

While getting a gallon of paint and a gallon of acetone is the best way to go, I’ve found a quart of paint and an equal amount of acetone works fine. Put it in a wide mouthed bucket, or something with a lid. Dip and roll the traps around in it or use a paintbrush to hit the parts that didn’t get colored the first time. I can do dozens of traps this way and not break the bank.

The secret to dipping/painting is to do it when it’s HOT outside.
