I would suggest a shirt colour that compliments most all colours of any given animal and shows them up the best.

A light yellow/beige works well. It shows up whites and darks alike. A dark animal wont show well at all on any dark tone, such as navy , black, etc. White , likewise, won't make white tones on an animal pop in nice contrast, such as a fox or badger.

Plus, many folks don't want dark shirts because of the heat in warm temps.

A nice gray fox, or red fox would look nice. Fisher are always nice, though a bit monotone overall . Some of the nicest mink I've seen are from PA too. Badgers are a good contrast too.

The more varied tones an animal has, the better they look on shirts. IF full colour is in the plan.

If the art is to be black ink only, then colour contrasts don't matter.

Howevah.

That makes for a whole "nother set of consideration in how to make the lines show up on dark coloured shirts. Usually a white ink base is applied first, cured, then the black ink is pressed on top. Technically a two coloured print. If the art is to be full colour, that light base still would probably be a needed consideration for dark animals to show up, such as otter, fisher, mink,etc.
