Last Thursday, I planted 250 Black Hills spruce and Colorado blue spruce for a tree guy over here. It took me 10 hours, but I made $200 doing it. It was by far some of the hardest and most exhausting work I've ever done. I have nothing for respect for guys who do it all the time. And then tomorrow, I get to do it all over again.

They grow with age or like Texans in a men's prison. I have planted 25-75 per year for the last 20+ years. Many are 30+ feet tall now. The deer, turkeys and grouse just move from each clump of apples to the next. You should come up and try to shoot a couple of the buzzbomb grouse sometime. I haven't shot one off this place in many years.

I planted trees through high school for beer money. They paid $35/1000 and in my prime I could get 1500-2000 in a day. Those were long, hard days on good sites though.

I planted more at my buddies property today. The ones I planted last year didn't get fenced or chew guards on them but I brought along enough today to do them plus what I stuffed in the ground today. There was a 100% survival rate with very, very little damage. The deer had nipped a couple but no mouse or rabbit damage at all. The only 2 that I "lost" from last year were the 2 he ran over with the brush hog.
