Lobo- your agent possibly didn't enter all your risk information correct when quoting and selling you the policy. I'm not sayin it is what motivated your agent, but some do that sort of thing on purpose to quote you a low price and make a quick sale.

Things like wood stoves, pools, and some breeds of pets are considered higher risk and an equivalent premium is charged for them.

As a guy who works claims as an independent and now specializing in mishandled claims- I'm happy to hear you got rid of SF. I've known them to be problematic.

When asked by Ins. co. if I had a wood stove I told them no. I have a masonry heater, much safer than a wood stove.
Explained why, the firebox doors are never opened while its burning, it burns very efficiently, I only burn very dry wood thats seasoned at least 2 years but usually 4 years so no creosote and the fire runs only about 2-3 hours per day typically.

They didn't charge us anything extra for the Heater.

I know the insurance companies up here want to know if wood is your primary source or just a back up. It makes a big difference in the cost.
But if you avoided a 1000 dollar increase by changing companies, you're still ahead. But it would be nice to know up front

So is it cheaper if it’s your back up heat or is it cheaper if wood is your primary source?

Cheaper if it is "backup"

Is your stove UL approved? That was important when I was in the insurance business. Companies did not like homemade devices.

Stove is UL approved. It was put in new to code when I built my house in 2002. I use dry hardwood and clean my chimney regularly.
