My kids do go to private school. But my property taxes go to the public school.

Ol dad

You should move up here. Private schools are taxpayer funded too.

"Iowa's Students First Act, introduced by Governor Kim Reynolds and signed into law in January 2023, offers school choice vouchers for all K-12 students regardless of income, starting from the 2025-26 school year.
These vouchers, also known as Education Savings Accounts (ESAs), provide funding to cover tuition, fees, and other qualified education expenses at accredited nonpublic schools in Iowa.

As of October 1, 2024, 27,866 Iowa students were using vouchers to attend private schools, marking a significant increase in private school enrollment.
The program has led to the opening of 21 new accredited private schools in the current school year, bringing the total number of private schools to 211.

The financial implications of the voucher program are substantial. In its first two years, the program has cost over $360 million, becoming the fastest-growing expense in the state budget.
For the 2025-26 school year, the ESA amount will be $7,826, plus any increase determined by the Iowa Legislature."

Interesting. It would appear property taxes still go to the public school? Funding for private school from State income taxes?
