[quote=Lugnut]I could retire but that would probably kill me! : I still have my fireworks business but only physical work about 1 month out of the year.Scrambling the last few weeks trying to procure enough product for the 4th, we had delay a 40ft container from china because of the tarrifs so we’re short about 800 cases .

I am 80 years old and as far as I know it is the Aorta valve. My doctor hasn't given me the option of open heart surgery as far as I know. I take my wife along on my appointments because I can't hear what they are saying. I am not well versed on the medical terms, all I know is they are going to go through my groin for whatever the procedure is called.
I got myself a seniors' GPS. Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination, it tells me why I wanted to go there.

The big upside to that is that you won’t have to go through the rather painful recovery of open heart surgery.
Eh...wot?

My heart doctor told me I need a heart valve replacement. Has anyone experienced that and what was it like. He informed me the valve actually comes from a cow, lol. I told him I wanted one from a Holstein. Lol … that’s the spirit…. I don’t know about the valve but my mom and uncle had open heart surgery and were up and running in short order
Insert profound nonsense here

I am 80 years old. I had this done a year and a half ago. They installed the cow tissue valve. Did it through the femoral artery in my right leg. In one day back home the next afternoon and out walking on the road in front of the house. Back to all normal activity in two weeks.
in 2006 I had five bypasses of heart arteries. That was done by cutting my chest open and working in there. In hospital for five days and it took 6 months to get back to normal activities.
If you get the cow tissue valve you don't have to take warfarin unless you have some other bad heart issues that requires it. I take an 81mg baby aspirin every day, that is all the anticoagulant that I have to take. Much simpler living. If you go with the mechanical heart valve you have to take warfarin for the rest of your life and frequently go to doctor to check that the warfarin dosage is correct. Bleed like a stuck pig with the smallest nick of a wound.

I had open heart surgery to replace my aerotic heart valve in 2013. I had a piece of bovine pericardium installed to replace my 1.25 inch defective valve. He did not want to have me get a mechanical valve as I would need to be on blood thinners all my life. with the cow piece I am on 2 baby aspirins per day. I am getting my valve checked annually now. They say 10-15 years is the norm. The good news today is they can go through the groin with a liner and not open me back up. They can do that once I guess. I was 62 when we discovered the defective valve and 65 when we replaced it. I am now 77. The catalogs we get in the mail when we are older are for "body parts".
Bryce My friend had his valve replaced with a mechanical valve and he will be on warfarin the rest of his life. For some reason they told him he couldn't go on Eliquis or Xarelto.
Every time I laugh, cough, or sneeze, my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires.
