I am thinking about using the sleepy creek 1.75 and MB 650 for Coyotes and I am wanting to see your opinion. I have never trapper Coyotes but have trapped coons and small varmints in DP and footholds. If anybody wants to sell some MB 650 I may like to buy them. Excided to see everybody's opinion.

…. A four coiled bridger dogless is an affordable option if you’re buying a large quantity

I want to get good traps that will last a long time and I don't want to get cheap traps that break and don't work good.

The Duke 550 is a good trap. I swap out the chain with #3 American machine chain and 3 crunch proof swivels and put them to work. Have caught coyotes, coons, red fox, bobcats, skunks, pack rats and otters with them. Scheels usually has them for 16 apiece with free shipping most days. They are tough traps.

I would look into used traps , either by facebook or e-bay or represented by local gatherings. As you progress, you will form your own opinion. It's not like you have a lot to gain monetarily by using one set brand .Set what you have and observe it's result.

I currently use Bridger dogless #2s and mb 550s both off set. I like the thick cast jaws on the 550s and thay are great but think I like how the bridges bed and seem to sit just a little flatter and have a little bigger jaws.. add they are cheaper and I have never had a single issue or thought they ever didn't hold a coyote just as well as a 550 I think if I buy more it would be the Bridger #2 dog less.

also hurts less when they get ran over and destroyed by farm equipment ( lost w
2 550s this year) Years ago I caught my first coyotes in used Victor 1.75 they worked just as well. But I'm not young and broke now so when I got back I to trapping I picked the two most talked a out traps to try out and see what I liked. Started with the Bridger because that's what the local shop had in stock but I wanted the 550s more from my reading. later I got some 550s and we'll they are a good trap but I prefer the Bridger dog less.

I've been using mb550s. And got a dozen Duke 550s just to try them. I've caught several hundred coyotes and quite a few bobcats in both. I've never lost an animal out of them. Either one in my opinion are as good as you can get.

I don't think your coyote are as big as ours. MB 650 is a good trap but maybe a little over kill. I have caught coyote in Duke #2's, MB 550, Bridger #2 -#3, Northwoods #2 -#3. They all work.

OP mentioned SC 1.75's and that's what I use...That trap is really a #2, constructed of high quality steel....Like the closed jaw variant best as a multi-species trap, and they hold these big eastern coyotes (some 50 lbs plus) very well.

Don't have to move a lot of real estate to bed one either
..Heard that was Tim Cavens trap of choice before the MB's came out, and Mark June used them before the MB's.

I tried hard to like the MB design, it's a tank....But definitely like the Sleepy Creeks better.

Me too. Had nearly 12 dozen of them at one time (and some modified SC 1.5s ). Caught a lot of critters in those traps for years. Sold em and replaced em with Bridger 2 dogless. I miss those compact amd tough SCs sometimes.
