I'm not sure how far the Grand Canyon is from Vegas.

We got a rental and went to the grand canyon for a day and you also have the red rock canyon, there's a town just before the dam where the desert big horn sheep hang out in the park pretty cool to hang out there awhile.

Zion NP is less than 3hrs drive. suggest renting an ebike outside the park, biking in, then doing a few hikes (emerald pools, narrows, scout lookout/angel's landing, etc). only shuttle busses on roads inside the park. ebikes equalize physical capabilities between family members. Zion can be crowded but very cool place.

only been there once , but we did the hoover dam , took a bus , wished we had driven instead I would have done the hard hat tour.

gunsite school is near Vegas on the AZ side of the border https://www.gunsite.com/welcome/

you might look into taking a class while you are in the area.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

My son dodged a bullet...was supposed to get married in Vegas last oct., that blew up, but I digress, lol
There is a old ghost town outside of town that they were supposed to have pictures taken that looked pretty cool, don't remember the name but it's a short ride.and Hoover Dam is a big draw...If you can get to the Grand Canyon, go, but enter from the east gate...remarkable scenery.

We did a helicopter ride over Hoover Dam with champagne lunch in the Grand Canyon. The next day we did a kayak trip from the back side of Hoover Dam through Black Canyon and Willow Beach, stopping at some hot springs caves. Then the last day we rented a pontoon boat and cruised and swam at Lake Mead.

X2 on Gunsite Academy !!

I think that ghost town is Rhyolite

Also, SE from Vegas, is Jerome, AZ. I really interesting state park exhibit of an underground copper mine and the restored town around it.

North of Vegas is Great Basin National Park and Lehman Cave. The trip down into the cave is interesting also.

Can rent a GT500H for 24hrs. Best $634 I spent there. Theres a ton of stuff to do there, mind you I've only gone in February. Just walking the strip or Fremont is fun. Atomic museum, Shelby museum, Mob museum..... to name a few boring places.

Lots of cool stuff to do, how much driving just determines what is a day trip for you! A couple places I have been below…but look on a map there are a lot of things to see if your not afraid to drive.

Hoover Dam and Valley of Fire are close and cool to explore. Look for the sheep around Boulder City if you go to Hoover Dam. Both can be done in half a day or less, or longer depending how much walking, touring or exploring you want to do.

Death Valley to the West is a pretty easy day trip. Not as much cool to see factor there, but interesting with the history and it being hottest place on earth.

Lake Havasu to the South is a day trip, fun drive to get there, and a tourist area. Probably not much for spring break activities in September! Need to get there and fish for the giant redear sunfish one of these years still.

Grand Canyon and Zion are a little longer drive. A lot of cool things to see and explore at both places, but with the drive time they will be long day trips.

Single or with family? If you're by yourself $1000 and you'll probably be getting a PO box

One of the things I had to do every time I went out there (my daughter lived there for over a decade) was to go to the marina on Lake Mead. Buy a couple of large bags of popcorn first. When you walk out on the pier there are giant schools f fish that will follow you if you start tossing out a handful of popcorn now and then.

Mostly Carp and stripped bass. You can sit on the pier with your feet in the water and the fish will bite your toes if you leave them in too long.

If your brave you can lay down on your belly and grab a fish when they mob the popcorn, hard to hold on to a 15 lb carp!!.

Its a blast.

If you like to kayak, kayak the Colorado starting at the base of the Hoover Dam. You will need to book a tour to do so. Scenery is amazing, hot springs, history and big horn sheep. Zion NP is amazing too but completely overrun with visitors

appreciate all the replies! (and keep them coming!)

I did find something that probably no one else would "waste" their time on. It's actually ON my Bucket List!...seeing/touching an old bristlecone pine tree. I understand there are several groves not too far from Vegas.
