not hardly a brush cutter! is a hydra clip. has 20 in spacing and I take multiple bites to down larger trees. 35ft is not a big one. 50-60ft is. I realize they aren't your giants of Alaska but they ain't no 14in tree. I've got a brush cutter that handles 8inch trees an it wouldn't even attempt one of these trees

I'm reminded of a story my dad told. He was born along the Columbia river near St. Helens and during the depression found himself picking potatoes in Maine. The farmer asked him one day what did he think of the mountain off yonder. Dad kept straining to see the aforementioned mountain when he realized that the farmer was indicating a small hill in the distance. What was a mountain to that farmer wasn't what dad would have ever called a mountain.

Yeah, I’ve never been east, but I’m told that we do mountains and timber way differently in the west. A good friend of mine is from Oklahoma, and he said the biggest mountains in the east are we would call a small hill, not worthy of naming.

Mike I just get a kick out of flatlanders trying to compare their work to mine. Talking about “tall” 60 foot trees and stuff. I know they have a job to do like the rest of us, not knocking that. But when they say “logger” speaking in reference to the middle or eastern parts of the country, “farmer” is what comes to my mind lol

noone was trying to steal your thunder! you win your trees are worthy of logging. these are nuisance trees that are taking over the Midwest that get burned asap. your ego likes to think I was referring to these as giant logs

You said they were sizable…that has nothing to do with my ego, I was just saying sizable trees don’t exist there. And anyone who does the same job I do will absolutely have an ego to varying degrees about it. If you don’t think you’re one of the best, it’s very easy to convince yourself that one of these trees will be the death of you (and if you make a mistake, it’s very probable that it will). I wasn’t trying to poo poo on what you got going on, it’s interesting to me to see how things are done elsewhere. I was mostly trying to point out that what people consider a “sizable tree” varies wildly based on location and experience. To me, sizable means I have to beaver it down with a 36” bar, and it’s likely over 150 feet tall

I would hope so. But if we’re comparing apples to apples, I have cut alongside a feller buncher down in WA cutting tree lengths, and I smoked that timbco. So if I was just tipping them over, not measuring and bucking logs, I think you’d be surprised how good I keep up with you. The main difference being, after 6 hours I’m leaving to go drink beer, operators usually work 12’s. But hour for hour, I’ll give any operator a run for their money

No, but I do remember what happened to the last operator who made me grouchy. Let’s just say sitting in a cab all the time left him wishing he was in better shape when I pulled him out of there

I’m actually pretty easy to work with, until you steal my walk logs and make me wade through a bunch of brush. And even then, don’t get lippy if I flip you some crap about it, and we’re good. But if you steal my walk logs and give attitude when I’m just giving you crap about making my life harder, I can bounce up the side of a log loader and have the door open in a flash lol
