hoping to make a list from this of places I need to try as I get around traveling.

I have determined this is basically the theme to places I like to eat out.

it is a little concrete block building that sells seafood , it is also a 5th wheel trailer parked behind the little building that is an excellent cook shack with outdoor seating , the cook shack is only open Thur, Fri , Sat , but is it ever good.

Have no recommendations, pretty basic around here, but my son made it a mission for awhile visiting DDD places as he traveled, said they were ok but nothing extraordinary, I guess it was mostly TV hype.

Clydes Drive In in Manistique Mi.for their burgers,especially the Clyde burger.For sit down the Gladstone Deli in Gladstone,Rosie's Diner in downtown Escanaba is excellent too.

they have all the locations on their website of all the places they went.
I have also heard some of the places struggle with getting some fame and they can't always keep it the same after.
a couple hundred of them closed not a huge number considering there were almost 1500 in total.

we all know that often it is a couple employees that really make a place special or the owner , and there are so many circumstances one death , fire , flood or illness can really change a place.

a friend of mine and his brother had a Pizza place , they were doing well but were some what ready to hang it up and saw the writing on the wall with the labor market a couple years pre-covid.
they quit while they were ahead , both had degrees and went into teaching , they work half as much now and have a retirement building , weekends and summers off and enjoy the subjects they teach.

Yep, GCP, too many fires in these little places.

We lost Lake Church Inn a few years ago and just recently the Twisted Pair in Beechwood. Both excellent little places.

The Crawdad Hole in Water Valley MS is the only place that really comes to mind.

yup there was a place we went when I was a kid that was great , had fishing while you waited for a table from the little pond , they had bits of cheese for bait.

not sure what happened to it or what it was named , all I remember was it my favorite place because of the fishing while you waited for a table. I am seeing my parents tomorrow for fish and will ask. I think they said it burned down. that must have been about 40 years ago.

my directions are bad from that age if I had to guess it was probably near Burlington

been 20 year since I was there but when I lived closer to Beaver Dam WI , Mally's bus stop across from the old Kraft plant loading docks was a great place for fish , and you could get a 55 cent tap beer those were the little glasses.

the kitchen had a screen door to the bar and one to the outside , they have 4 ladies in the back that breaded and fried the fish and brought it out.

I see it is closed now.

Eidth's cakes and catering had a little diner in Beaver Dam as well , I see also closed , I took my son there a few years ago before they closed , that was a great spot when I lived up that way 00-04.

DDD actually has a map on their website. When you are visiting somewhere you can pull it up and eat at the place they filmed near you. I hit the bbq joint in vegas like that. Pretty killer. Road Kill Cafe or something it was called I think.

If you're ever in Athens, GA, this is the place for a Southern cafeteria style breakfast. Lunch is good but breakfast is great.

Philly area - DiCostanzo's the ORIGINAL HOAGIE on 425 in Marcus Hook - get sharp prove and hot roasted Italian hot peppers
Jimmy Johns Hot Dogs on 202 Glen Mills thick skinned and delicious
Ashelys on Route 1 in Chester Heights

Des Moines Are - Tasty Tacos - their taco sauce is amazing get the flour tacos

Portland - Guiseppies Italian - the Antipasto plate is gigantic and free with meals, more than even I can eat in one sitting entrees

In West Bend WI, Brazenhead Irish Pub downtown main street.

They have a fantastic Tenderloin Steak sandwich.

It comes with grilled mushrooms and onions on it, a great grilled flavor.

No doubt the best sandwich I have ever had.

The wife and I are always looking for an excuse to get down there and stop for lunch.

I have not had a burger there but the wife has, she said it is very good. I know that in the last couple of years they were voted best burger in WI.

the building is an old filling station and the place is run by a pair of brothers , don't judged the food by how the flooring is laid in bathroom , they can cook not lay tile.


that is actually a really good point , some or the best diners and dives have sketchy construction in the bathrooms but it was always clean.

They at least used to, grind up a whole bull in the basement, using all the cuts of meat. The ground beef is served similarly to sloppy joe with a fairly clear, sugar sauce.

Just East of there, in Piqua, Ohio is B&K Rootbeer:

They specialize in foot long Spanish hotdogs, cheesy fries and rootbeer. The waitresses hook food trays to your window. B&K is probably the restaurant my dad has the most nostalgia for. When I was a child up until when I was in college, we would frequently stop there when we went up to visit my grandparents and other relatives.

The Spot is incredibly busy and well loved. The food is decent, but I think most of the draw is nostalgia. I know it's been on a number of tv shows.

Skyline mostly serves spaghetti and cheese coneys, with their chili on them. Their chili contains ground beef, chocolate, tomato sauce and cinnamon. We eat from their canned chili probably twice a month

Nelson Brothers Bakery in Clearwater, MN donuts as big as your head and Fritter Bread ( seasonal fruit ) makes for awesome French toast !

No Name Pub , Big Pine Key FL (Best pizza, wing, and well known for their smoked fish dip)

Harborside Bar and Grill , West OC MD (Great seafood entrees and original Orange Crush)

Orange Blossom Bakery, Buxton NC. (The original Apple Ugly)

Moonshine Store , Martinsville IL (Hands down best burger joint)

Amos Mosquitos in Atlantic Beach NC is another standout. Their shrimp n grits was a plate to remember

I didn't know there was a Clyde's in Manistique. The Clyde's in the Soo make an excellent cheeseburger, and it looks like they may have been started by the same Clyde. So I also vote for this one, especially if you enjoy watching big slow freighters drive by while you eat.

Whenever I get the chance in PDC I go eat breakfast at that place that has a beaver on their sign. Kinda halfway between cabbalas and kiwi trip. I have to go eat at Petes again. Last time I thought it was over rated.

I can't think of that place off the top of my head , I am always driving and trying not to get hit in the round abouts in PDC so I probably miss some of the signs

the place across the street is about as Wisconsin as it gets , huge liquor mart with a marina , gun store and bait shop just mixed right into the pallets of beer isles

got to love a place where you can look at outboards and beer in the same isle

Well if your ever out this way, might as well plan on the Cowboy Dinner Tree. They only serve chicken or steak, have to make a reservation in advance and only take cash. No sharing of plates so come hungry. It’s a whole chicken or 26-30 oz. sirloin steak with all the fixings $50.00

Sioux Falls SD-Tortilleria Hernandez. Absolutely the best steak burrito that exists anywhere within 2 hours. And probably farther. Ive tried a lot. And this is the best. Bring cash and dont plan on eating there because there arent any tables. Its a tortilla factory.

I suspect you are referring to Pete's hamburger stand ,across from Starks Sporting goods and Liquor?
I enjoy both places, and have made many a road trip ,just to stop there.

Yes Starks is the Liquor store , sporting goods and marina across , well really completely surrounding Pete's Burger stand. the buildings on the Pete's side of the street are Marina buildings.

I haven't been in there for a long time now, but it used to have a little bit of everything.

Been a year or two for me but little if anything had changed from previous visits , a little of everything , fishing stuff mostly in the back , guns above the counter , boat stuff and beer in the middle , t-shirts and beach chairs by the front window.
