Got on my Ranger yesterday and put in high. Top speed is 26mph and that’s it. Usually twice that at least. Any ideas where to start trouble shooting. Is there a throttle sensor, belt slipping or what? Thought someone else might have run into this same problem or it might be a common issue. Machine has about 4,000 miles on it. Polaris XP 1000, 2019 model. Seems fine in low gear. Just don’t know where to start digging.

Do you have the drivers seat belt latched?

Some of them have a special feature where you can limit top speed. I assume so when teaching kids it can only go so fast. My buddy bought a used one and had the same problem and this is what he found. Dealer reprogramed it and it was fine. Don't know if you bought this used or it just started to happen.
I'm no expert but after that I'd be checking the clutch

Polaris really said, “No seatbelt? No speed for you.” Safety police in full force.

Seatbelt has to be latched or it governs out

It’s governed, either a seat belt sensor, or its top speed was set there.

It feels governed out but in high. The seat belt being unbuckled governs it at 15. So, there is a seat belt sensor that could be bad? I really think it’s something like that, something simple. I wondered if the cluth might not let it engage but it governs out in park too so I don’t think it’s clutch related. I’ve had it five years, first time problem.

I don’t have a ton of experience messing with them, I just know that the forest service issued me a Honda pioneer on a wildfire a few years ago, and it was governed at 25, until I found the governor behind the dash and unplugged it. Everyone else on that fire was jealous that I could do 50 mph lol

I have a 570 ranger it max is 15 without the seatbelt latched .if you have and Rpm gauge check and see if hey are high if it is revving and no speed the belt could be slipping..I am not sure if the belt pulley is centrifugal if so it may be stuck not allowing the pulley to tighten up when high speed is called for.

My guess is worn belt or clutch issues

Does it have Ride Command? Sounds like you can set max speed in ride command.

When you find the problem, you can also buy a little device on amazon that plugs into the wire going to the drivers seat belt that stops the speed restriction tied to the seat belt.

I have a 2023 1000 ranger, it was doing the same thing and making a squeal noise, not very loud but squeal. Took it to the shop, they threw parts at it for a month till I got mad and took it to a different shop. The other shop found the problem in 5 minutes. The bushing in the second area clutch had pushed out the back and was gone so the clutch plate was wearing on the transmission shaft, he said the polaris second area clutch are pure junk. 4000 to 5000 miles you have replace them. He ordered a aftermarket one that doesn't have that bushing. It cost me $600 for it and $150 labor but that fixed it. That seat belt deal you can get a seat belt bypass off Amazon. 2 of them for around $14 ,easy to put in under the seat. My ranger has 4200 miles on it

We have an older Polaris 4x4 that came with two keys. A yellow and red (I think). The yellow limited the speed to 25mph. The other key, no limit.

Do you remember where he got the after market clutch? If it comes to that that’s what I’ll do.
