Had a call from a marina I trap for today. Last two nights a Racoon had gotten on a boat and was tearing things up/ scratching and clawing at the seats. No food is on the boat. Set traps this evening and caught a young/small female (adult) 10 minutes after I setup at 8:30 pm before the sun was even down. She was not nursing. I suspect she was not bred late winter and is now, or getting ready to breed and looking for a nesting site. Maybee she was a late born last year and wasn't able to go into heat in February? Or just wasn't bred or miscarried? Curious what others think. Thank you

Maybe in the raccoon world she has a big snout. She hasn’t learned that the trash can behind the bar is where all the drunk boy raccoons hang out. Only then will she be taken to the raccoon no tell motel.

Hard to tell if there was something spilled on the seats from kids or others eating/drinking something. Residual odors are very strong to an animal but look and smell clean to a human. Just a possibliity to explain the situation. Something got its attention obviously.

Maybe a fishy, bait odor. Pleasure craft or fishing vessel? Or, just nesting in a convenient spot.

It is a pleasure craft, big, very clean Lake Erie cabin cruiser. Set again tonight for safe measure per their request. Always lots of animals in the marinas. Thanks for the insight

I cought two large boars last night, one was checking out around the boat. I'm thinking they were after the female from the first night.
