I’m noticing a lack of owls not in just in one area but many areas, hawks are way down also nothing like before the bird flu hit. I seen a great horned owl in one place but have not heard one owl all turkey season. Hawks were thick here on the power lines on every 1-3 miles in the fall.

The Black Hills, central SD, WI not a hoot that’s odd. Eagles seemed to do ok plenty of those around a group of about 25 on the lake most of the winter.

Anybody else seeing a drop in owl and hawk numbers?

Actually, I am seeing more hawks than I normally am used to. Smaller hawks, mostly. We had a run of increasing owl numbers for a few years. Hard to gauge them until the longer nights of fall time. It’s common to hear them around my house, when I watch bats in the late fall evening time.

I seem to be overrun with owls. I frequently see and hear great horned owls, barn owls, barred owls and screech owls on my farm. I have mature trees and brush, with lots of mowed areas and small hayfields. It must be close to perfect owl habitat. The larger owls frequently leave headless rabbits in my hayfields.

Our owls and hawks drop way back when our rodents down cycle.
Generally after Tularemia.

Very few hawks here, numbers must be 10% or less of pre bird flu. Tons of rabbits for the last two years as well as mice, it's not a lack of food

At my shack in western WI the Great Horned/ Barred owls are crazy.

They hoot from dawn and continued off and on throughout the day.

The Eagles are also well represented.

I've noticed the number of redtail hawks is down around here. They have been replaced by smaller hawks like the Coppers and sharp-shinned hawks.

We've always had plenty of owls around. The barred owls are the ones I hear most frequently. Sometimes in spring there will be three or four calling at the same time within earshot of my deck.

I also hear saw-whet owls, barn owls and great horned owls pretty regularly.

My favorite is the screech owl with it's horse-whinny call.

Rabbits are everywhere we go we are seeing multiple bunnies at the same time popping out of the ditch grass when scouting for turkeys.

Rabbit's is something I haven't seen a lot of in many years. The big numbers of hawks and owls no doubt contributes to that.
