I regularly mix otter and cat glands and use for both animals as well as canines.

I grind and age together. Use bobcat urine in it and a little ambergris.

I’ll add, this is strictly for my personal use in case anyone thinks I’m ruining either the cat or otter glands. I don’t try to sell it.

Thanks for the replies men ... greatly appreciated. I have seen where 'Cats have dug down thru the snow to feed on Otter Carcasses thought there may have been more to it than hunger

It's strictly hunger....ie nothing else available.

Nothing, not even buzzards, eat otter carcasses here.

Now, the otter musk is very attractive to bobcats. But the otter meat..not so much.

Yes otter carcasses will mummify before any thing will eat them here.

What glands does everyone keep off otter. I have searched all over and have found about zero information on keeping otter glands. Tia

The anal musk glands are all I’ve ever used in my concoctions.

I use Otter glands with other odors in a lure. There is a stump I apply it to and when the big cats move they stop and rub a lot. When I trapped in NY a lot of different animals would stop and work the toilets, so I started mixing the glands with other "stuff" that cats are supposed to like. I write everything down and I have been able to duplicate it, though buying glands is tough to get consistency.

Two things I've really picked up on along my water line is that predator tracks are drawn to two places like clockwork:

1.) Anything beaver... huts, bank den breath holes, castor mounds....

and

2.) Otter toilets.

Do with that information as you will, but here in PA where we only have a very short otter season paired with stringent regulations for otter trapping, a trapper has to know how to navigate the situation.. Our regulations restrict us to 5 devices total for otter and beaver trapping during otter season. Thankfully our raccoon season is still in. which means all the pocket sets I run during that time are raccoon sets. While a blind set on an otter toilet seems like an otter specific set, the toilet gets more visitations from bobcats and coyotes than it does the transient otter- so I am sure to not place that trap between the toilet and the water, I try and stay toward the outside of the toilet and run a blind set or flat set with otter gland. Throw some game cams on those toilets and you'll be amazed at the visits you get!

I have not.

but a trusted lure-maker told me to go easy with otter glands in formulation.

I have. Straight Anal glands down a dirt hole. Aged maybe 2 days. The lions really seem to like them. To the point that they go 50-75’ off their path to go check it out. So I don’t use straight otter glands while trapping. Lol. They never dug it up but can see they really paced around the hole. Curiosity I reckon.

Good to know. Thank you guys. Ive tested it on coyotes and its sure not up there with rat or mink but otter are more available and cheaper.

Ive got a coyote formulation with them in that is pretty decent and a guy took it down south and told me I should market it as a cat lure too. Maybe they have more attraction to cats than coyotes.

Buddy caught this one quite a few years ago on straight otter smeared on a rock. New Mexico desert. No way it ever smelled one before. Got my attention. I been playing with it ever since. Never used a camera so not sure what they do except track around lots more than they will with a lot of other smells.
