That is a good point too Turtle. It takes compatible apple varieties for cross-pollination, pollinators (who don't like shade much), and then warm enough conditions for the pollen tubes to grow down and fertilize the ovaries.

There are several reasons why a tree may not blossom, but most may not be why the above tree may not blossom. There are apple varieties that need to have a "chill period" or need to veranlize to break dormancy. I don't know if that would be the case with this tree as it is far enough north to have been in a cold climate for many years.
