Might not hurt to read over the next thread down. Some good info on posts. Like sniper said, time of year. Think about what they’re doing, where they’re going and why. I try to mount my cams quite a distance from sets. If they are closer to sets I put them about 6-8’ up, or as high as I can reach. I know you’re after coyotes, but I know it takes wolves some time to get used to them, they’ll know it’s there and if it’s quiet…..people walking by will know too. I like them far away from sets, if they send pics, I know I should be hauling fur back the next time out, but it is cool when they’re watching the set work. This pic is not the norm, how many wolves do you see in this narrow little snap shot? ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/06/full-56418-261769-img_0815.jpeg) Pretty crazy eh!?

Good news is you got the location correct if your seeing coyotes at ur set on camera. Ive tested a good number of different cameras on coyotes and the majority well be detectable by coyotes making it harder to catch them. Second is ur bait/lure. Got to make sure they are down wind of it. Terrain and trees can cause wind to swirl and change direction. If they are smelling it but showing no intrest then its time to find something they are attracted too. One mistake beginners tend to make is leaving too much human scent too frequently in the vicinity of their sets. Make a good set the first time using a good lure/ bait and leave it alone. Check from a distance preferably from a vehicle on a roadway. Sometimes it is just about trial and error until you find what works. That's about all I have based off the limited information you give.

Well Spanky, this being “Facetious Friday” I suggest going to the nearest feedlot and you will catch coyotes! If you haven’t a feedlot within 3-4 States to trap, I strongly suggest following the advice from the experienced & seasoned trappers who have previously replied to your question in this thread!

Summertime coyote trapping in Georgia....it's rough.
You are likely dropping more sweat onto the trap beds that you are lure and bait into the dirthole or scent post.
All challenges are magnified during summer trapping......the heat, the sweat, the afternoon thunderstorms destroying the sets, the ants, less critter movement, less food aggression/interest due to them having plenty to eat....
It's doable, but will be difficult for a newbie.
Stay at it. That's the only way to learn.

Several have mentioned less intrest of food but its always been my understanding the need for food was highest while they are raising pup and that is the cause of the raise of predation on domestics this time of year. I know i see more daytime hunting this time of year

I know i see more daytime hunting this time of year The context of the food thing is that that prey species are at their highest this time of year. They aren't having to hunt hard or scavenge for food not to mention the fruits that will soon be available if not already.

My serious suggestion to you is move to another part of the property, make sure you are still right on the coyotes and test your bait with no trap just a 1” hole about 8” deep. Put in a tablespoon of bait and get in & out as quickly as possible. Still hang a camera a distance away and do that as quickly as possible. Set the camera to make videos, not photos. Photos will not tell you what you need to know!
If the coyotes continue to walk-by the test plot, change bait! IMHO there are two inherent behaviors that coyote exhibit regardless of time of year, they need to eat and they need to roll on stink. If your choice of bait doesn’t cause coyotes to do one of these reactions, buy a different bait and test it before setting a trap. When dealing with a coyote-type puzzle solve it by only changing one element at a time. Once you’ve verified the bait, you'll be able to move on the next part of the puzzle.

Also, have you checked out the Coyote Carnage S. Texas thread in the Trapping Only section? One of the most informative threads on coyotes I've looked at. Especially since he's summer trapping them right now in probably similar environment/temperatures to what you're dealing with.
