I saw my first while squirrel hunting when I was about five years old. I was really mad that my dad wouldn't let me shoot the giant squirrel.

Good stories....saw my first one in a tree when I was checking traps one season. Heard a bunch of noise in a mulberry tree and couldn't believe my eyes. Sucker was searching for any mulberries that hadn't been eaten....didn't care about me watching at all.

I grew up working in a concord grape vineyard and still live in the middle of one. The woodchuck s would climb up and sit on top of the grape posts. When we got within 50 yards they would alert and jump straight off.
Once roundup became the herbicide of choice it killed most of the woodchucks food source and we didn't have near as many burrows in the vineyard.
Now they live on the edges of the vineyard/woods mostly. and will climb the trees more than the grapeposts

I've shot a few chucks out of trees. The first one I saw I couldn't believe it was a chuck. I figured maybe a fox, or a coyote had treed It. Then I started seeing more in trees.
