a good friend of mine got me into this fly fishing thing. he also gave me a ton of flies and other assorted baits. he fishes all over the US and other countries. I started using this artificial maggot plastic bait, Lawt, oh Lawt will that rascal catch the bream and crappie.

Looked em up, any brand in particular?

I've made fly spoons using fake nails and epoxing the hooks into the concave . Then give them a silver or gold coat. Deadly on crappie and white bass. Lots of fun !

not sure the brand. I ordered them from both Reds fly shop and Fly USA, caught a helluva deal earlier in the month. about to check with Do It molds to see if they make this mold so I can produce my own. They sure the hec work big time. Up north where yall have those great big blue gill and crappie, this joker would be death on them.

I fly fish for bluegill, crappie, rockbass and so on, I never heard of a maggot type fly. I'd like to give it a go!

I always found them too small for the majority of my fishing. I tike to use the Mr Crappie Slabalicous (sp?) baits. They skip and shoot docks well and have good action.

thanks Savell, these rascals. I aint skipping docks, i dont fish on any public waters because I dont want to be around people nor buy a freaking fishing license.

You might want to do a search and try out some glass beaded type midge patterns. Be similar but easily found in fly shop

I have a ton of flies this pharmacist gives me plus what I been buying. I have a good many of the beaded princess flies. and 27 double sided fly boxes full of different flies. I dont want to catch bass on my setups because they are all 3-5wt. I did land a 7 pound bass last summer on a floating fly this man gave me. It took forever to get that turd worn down. also made me go by a big freaking extendable net to land them with.

A good chunk of flies tend to be river oriented but they'll work on most waters. You may find the Texas midge to be a decent pattern on your small fish. Others to take a look at that are similar to the maggot would be midges tied with tubing, lots of the various colored caddis larva, and the grayling style grubs. I know they tie a maggot fly with a tubing style of body in a few colors that would likely be a very close match to the one Savell loaded for you in case you need to get replacements or just have fun experimenting. When the sunfish are in the shallows and around beds I have the best luck running a decent sized dry fly on the top with something like deer hair so it has great flotation and drop a wet fly or nymph pattern below that. Usually most of the fish come from the lower fly and the dry makes for a decent bobber. Around dark theres quite often a switch and the dry starts to get all of the action if there is any hatch happening

Put those on a 12-18" tippet under a dry fly . Good times !

yep, or a spinning rod with about 4 pound line on it. I am messing with the fly rods because it is a ton of fun.

Did a bit of fly rodding years ago, Don't know if I even have one anymore.....so I just started checking online....don't need anything fancy, FG would be fine...What weight are you using for pan fish? That's all I'd use it for anyway....
