I got an email saying that Steve lost his battle with cancer yesterday. Rest in peace my friend.

Rest well and my condolences to his family and friends ! Cancer SUCKS !

I imagine the newer trappers don't know who Steve was. He worked hard in the NTA for a number of years, and he made Dunn knives. Years ago he made a run of numbered beaver knives for Trapperman with Trapperman.com etched on the blades. We used them as a fund raiser for the NTA and FTA.

Sorry to hear and condolences to all who knew him.
Thanks for the info about him. Mary, the FHA rep for the west, left us yesterday, Greg Schroeder last year among others, and every convention I’ve attended this year has a moment of silence of one or more local legends that have passed.
They will be missed and all have very big shoes to fill.

RIP old friend. I knew him well and visited with him back in the day when I was on the convention circuit. Bought knives from him and Melvin also over the years. Another piece of our history passes on.

I met Steve and Tess at a NTA Convention and he donated one of his knives for our association fund raiser auction. I brought this up at one of our BOD meetings and our board approved the purchase of a package of Dunn Knives to use for fund raiser raffles. To make a long story short, I have probably raffled of 20+ Dunn knives with a deck of playing cards at the NC convention and VA District 1 convention over the years. Not only did they sell us packages of knives at a discount, but they also continued to donate a knife as well. Very generous and always a pleasure to deal with.

I bought a pair of knives off him at the Harrisburg Sports Show a while back. Double sheath….they are so nice I never let them leave the house. Steve seemed like a really nice fella.

Steve was a very generous donor with his knives and worked his hind end off for the NTA and all of trapping. He spent a few days with Denny and I when we were in Texas trapping coyotes. He came down to call them in and not trap. He often came to the MN trapping convention and was always very generous there. RIP old friend.

He definitely made quality knives and was not shy about donating to a lot of worthy causes. Happy trails and thanks for all you have done in support of the trapping industry.

Yep, Steve worked hard for the NTA and the sport. He'll be dearly missed by all who were acquainted with him!! I have most of the knife pattern's he made and these are some of my best knives. RIP Steve!!
