Preacher man Les’ baby skunk thread reminded me;
If I ever had a skunk as a pet I would name it:
Sir Lars Of Roquefort….”Roku” for short!

Don’t think that day is coming any time soon but I wondered, do you all pick out names before you get your pet? Or after you get to know them!?

Ernie the wonder dog is our pet.
He and his brother Bert were up for adoption and we picked Ernie.
We added the wonder dog to his name a few months after we acquired him.

How could you pick a name without first seeing the animals and how they behave
My dogs name is Mr Shivers because his fur is about a half an inch with no underfur
When it gets below 70 degrees he shivers,

Yes he is Yote, it was removed when he was 6 months old. You would have never known it until a few years ago when he started to slow down. He was a crazy squirrel hunting dog.

Jordy got his name because he kept coming as a stray around the koi pond and drinking water; thirsty.
I named him after Jordy Verrill from the movie Creepshow. The character got exposed to something from a meteor that made him grow vegetation on his self so he required hydration.
He has a green collar and a little meteor charm on it.

“That’s Verrill Luck! Always IN , always BAD!!”

I helped my neighbor one night. Turns out his daughter heard a kitten trapped in a storm drain (dry) about 8 feet down. After removing the storm drain grate and climbing down I was able to catch it. Small little thing , cold and looked like it was about the age for weaning. They nursed it back to health.

They named the cat ' Stormy '

I call my dogs a lot of things but in a nice way the words are nothing to a dog but the tone is everything, it drives the wife crazy like the dogs feeling will get hurt but the tails just a wagging. I just shake my head.

Had a lab mix I called Hosier best dog I ever had.

Had a coon as a pet. I caught it under a log. It was very small and I was around 13 years old. I crawled under to let it go and was scared to death. Got the trap off and it just sat there. So I left and figured I'd reset the next day. Well you guess it. It was still there. Went home and got a feed bag and put him in it. Put it in the old chicken coop and he became tame fast. That coon would escape no matter how I tried locking it up. So I called him Houdini. The rest of my family called him Trouble

When we got our beagle we already had two annoying cats. I suggested we rename them all to be Snitty, Snotty, and Snoopy, but that idea got vetoed

Three dogs now.

Gremlin, because as a pup (and even still sometimes) her ears would stand way up when she heard something, making her look like a Gremlin.

Trouble.... self explanatory.

[This word is not acceptable on trapperman] but it starts with a Pi and ends with a Y because as a pup, he could not control his bladder for more than 15 minutes.

All named after the fact... most earn their names...

The one we got now was called "Jed" when we rescued him. We kept it. He lays around like an old man Jed.

The one before was named "Lily". She was a little psychotic. I started calling her psycho and it was the only thing she'd respond to.

The one before that was a dark chocolate brown cocker spaniel with little light spots dappled around his body. My son (5 at the time) said he looked like a log. His named ended up being loggy. He was probably the best dog I ever had. He loved to chase balls and frisbees. He just didn't like to bring them back. It was like playing fetch with yourself. He was 16 when we finally had to put him down. He loved everyone. All he wanted was petted.

Had a milk cow named George when I was younger. I'd go to the barn and yell "GEORGE!!!!" and no matter where she was on the farm she'd come running. My uncle like to freak out city folk by having me go out in the field and yell for her. She'd come running full tilt across the field and stop just as she got to me. Them city folk would be spazzing out thinking I was going to get trampled.

Both...

The most recent named pet, was because of a pet I had when I was A kid.

The wife and I were expecting a baby, and she said if it was a girl she wanted to name her Piper. I didn't care for the name, and the kids needed a dog, so I went out and found a beagle and named it Piper to effectively block the name.

Two twin cats, fluff and scruff.
A pup (squirrel dog) that died way to young (Strawberry)
