While fishing the other day I found this on the ground. I'm think it's a fishing tool for tying knots but I might be wrong.

I don't believe that tool is a hook remover. More of a tying tool or a tool used to adjust crankbait like was stated above.

That slot and circle opening looks like an old saw set used to bend the saw teeth left and right so they cut a wider kerf than the saw body. But it's to small to be much use for that so I'm going with crankbait tuner considering where found.

I had one of them before but I have no idea it's intended purpose. I can tell you its soft metal and if you use it with any force it'll break easily.

Looks like someone took their wife or girlfriend fishing and they got bored while waiting. It seems she decided to push the cuticle on their finger nails while sitting around. Then dropped the tool without realizing it.

I don't think anyone has nailed it yet.
I hope someone does as I have on in a tackle box that I picked up at an auction some time back.
Been wondering ever since.

Will be watching ..... and researching a bit.

As you were,
Thanks

I sent a picture of the item in question to a friend of mine
He says it's for replacing bail springs and it makes sense if you've ever changed bail springs
The slot's on the ends are different sizes to fit different size springs
I think he might be correct

I learned from the 300s that if you want a bail spring to last that you close the bail by hand
I don't know if new ones are any better because I still close the bail by hand and give the line a tug so I don't create a loop on the spool

300 Mitchells, use a lot of them. Lake Trout fishing yesterday with 6 pound line, got 5 small lakers jigging. Am eating part of one right now. I have not broke a spring in many years. But to replace one, I put the little tit into the hole in the bail slide the bail into place and tighten the screw. Don't see how that thing would help......jk

I've always closed my bails by hand, I thought everybody did?

I also learned open-face casting on a Mitchell 300, still have some in my closet.

Eh...wot?

How does it work if the holes are round?

I've been doing some googling and I can't find the exact one the OP posted but I think it is indeed a fish hook remover. Not that it wouldn't work for other applications.

Looks way too small ....maybe a Barbee size bicycle

Rounded holes won't tighten anything

It is a tool for Bike Spokes. Mine came with a tire repair kit for my Mountain Bike 25 years ago. I never used it ,it is EXACTLY like the one pictured.

I still have a Mitchell 300. Back in the day they were a pretty darn good reel for the money.

My new car has a button for pretty much everything. Even has one that says rear wiper. Still too afraid to try that one.

I’m not computer savy. I also tried “bicycle spoke wrench” same results.
