Any catalog pictures? I can’t find any info on a boys hatchet.

The closest in this catalog is the sportsman Boy Scout but that’s still too big. Weight is little over 1/2 pound with handle. Need a catalog from the 40’s, that’s when the ax feller thought it was made. He sells axes and handles for a living, so has some knowledge.

Another possibility is that your hatchet is a sales man's sample. With a half pound total weight, that's a definite possibility.

Sample axes usually are worth quite a bit because of their scarcity.

Both of these Facebook groups, that I am a member of, have a lot of experts that could help identify it.

Took that axe head i was talking about out to a stump. No handle yet but I cleaned it up and put a nice edge on it. Whacked it into the stump awhile. Cut good and stayed sharp. I don't think burning the old handle out hurt it at all.

Most of the axes and hatchets I have I am never going to use, so the handles don't matter much. I clean them up and heavily oil them with mineral oil. If I have a head with wood in the eye or a badly broken hand!e, I just put it in a vise and drill a bunch of holes in it, then tap it out with a large screw driver. It takes less than a minute.

This one had a steel wedge and nails. I drilled several holes still would not come loose.

The llbean hand ax looks the closest to any picture I have found, maybe the same manufacturer. I see where sounding ax and sportsman ax comes from also. Welland Vale Supposedly made axes for Marshall-Wells.
