Something under 600 might be a little tough to find although I don't know what is out there. I have a Savage OU 555 in a 16 gauge that I like. Sure it's not an Italian gun but I beat the crap out of it. It was somewheres in the 650 range maybe a little less. It will depend on stock and barrel options. CZ makes a nice OU that will be a little higher. Stoeger makes an OU that might be sub 600. I'm not a fan, I think they are too heavy. But they are still a good option

Oh man....sorry Ashley, but I can't stand the looks of those. Once you've handled a Beretta 686 Silver Pigeon , you can't go back. There are other brand shotguns that shoot wonderfully too. All are O/U. Refined technology is a mighty thing  That said, all of the old time event history clubs, where the appropriate guns need to be used, right down to the clothing of that past history, everyone has side by sides. I'm happy for them, it just isn't my style. I get it! I think I just like that old fashioned look. If I ever got a buck I would prob want it mounted upright on wooden plaque. But now that I spent a small fortune on my fox I probably won’t ever have anything else done!! Not saying over unders aren’t pretty guns!!! I once saw a triple barrel coach shotgun at a cabelas museum. They were stacked like a triangle. Pretty neat Sorry to go off topic here, Sheepdog!

I was there to watch and took no gun and they offered me to use a 20g 686 of theirs to flush a few times. It was very nice will probably be an impulse buy if I rune across a nice used one at a good price. ( the last thing I need is another shotgun sitting around that doesn't get shot) Now I have 3 old cheaper doubles 2 my wife's grandfather's beat to crap and if you saw on the rack you wold not bother picking that piece of junk up. But one points like my finger and I love it. the 3rs is a nice looking cheap ranger ( savage I think soled by someone else) in 16g. I don't like how the 12s are so wide. I think they shine in small gage as far as handling is concerned. Try a 20 or smaller and you may like them little more. It may just be to look you don't like? But just guessing since you shoot a 300 win mag you probably are likely to be shooting 12 mostly?

I love my Beretta 687 410, but have been around several others I started with a Charles Daley 410 O/U from Sportsman’s Warehouse for like $400 it used Beretta Mobil choke thread which is a very common choke thread in 410 (I put over 1700 rounds through it before I bought my 687) If you have an Academy sports store close take a look at the Yildiz line. I have a Yildiz 410 SXS and it handles well with decent quality at a $450 ish price point. I think the Yildiz O/U through academy is a similar price point maybe a bit higher. The CZ guns are all good guns at their price point.
I also have a Mossberg 500 410 that was sold by Walmart for years I use it as an all purpose camp shotgun for my cabin and I have been pleased with it as well

But just guessing since you shoot a 300 win mag you probably are likely to be shooting 12 mostly? My Beretta Silver Pigeon is 20 g. It shoots trap and skeet well. I also have a Mossburg pump short barrel in 12 g. That's for a different purpose than distance shooting. The Beretta is exceptional , in that the comb positioning to the bead at barrel's end is low and smooth. Perfect right out of the box for me to cheek down onto. I have not known another gun that was that nice , without some work to customize to suit. All I needed to do was have some very good gunsmiths shorten the LOP and put a nice spongy recoil pad on. I have borrowed good 12's from fellow trap shooters , and liked them very much. They didn't feel any different in recoil than my 20 g. I think there are a nice variety out there that can suit anyone . They all ribbed me to get a 12g. Not the 20 g. I had fun ribbing them back . Theres times I wish I did have a nice 12g. They sure make nailing clays much easier. Someday I may break down and get one. Im sure the SXS are fine too. I just like the looks of O/U much better.

X2 Marty. Nothing will run as long as an Italian shotgun......unless it's Boss Dobbin's Toyota Many guys would adamantly dispute that and say German lol. But I tend to like Italian guns myself just not necessarily the B guns Here's just my opinion for anyone that might be looking at a couple of the aforementioned B guns (Browning Citori line or Beretta 68x line). If you are getting ready to drop a couple of grand on O/U, I'd suggest you handle both prior. They are very similar but historically there are some fit differences between them. Browning and Miroku (the Japanese maker) are often favored here as the stock fit tends to be a little more straight and traditional by American standards. While a Beretta tends to have some cast from factory. But both stocks can be pretty easily tweaked by a decent smith if you have a real preference of one over the other. The real cautionary tale is dont buy the O/U. Thats a genie you cant put back in the bottle and you'll be searching for the next upgrade model!!!

I bought a 686 prior to opener of bird season here last year. I shot more doubles last year with it than any year prior, no buyers remorse .. we only get one go around.
