The fight was short on account of the 80 pound braid w/50 lb mono leader the skipper uses. We were using cut bait (white sucker and bluegill) and dropping the baits back into log jams and deep holes by rip-rap and broken concrete along shore (there was miles of it). As for eating the Channel and tossing back the Flathead............I was a guest and knew the rules going into the outing. They only eat small Flatties and release the whoppers.

Great fish! I am absolutely addicted to chasing big cats! Congratulations on that dandy!!

I'm the same way with eating the small ones and letting the biguns go.

I eat them all. Have many times cut open one less than 5 pounds to find it full of eggs.

Most of the big rivers in the southern lower have them........Muskegon (only the extreme lower end by Muskegon Lake), Grand, Maple, Saginaw, Raisen, St.Joe, to name a few.

Good flathead anywhere. My favorite fish to chase by far.
