Maybe that diamond stick needs to take a long dive over a short rail and try to learn to swim?

I hear ya. I'd just give up if they don't understand how a knife gets dull. Sharpening is a skill some just don't have and that's ok, but understanding the concept isn't difficult.
Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

Some folks an' seem to use tools for what they're designed for. I gave up loaning knives out.

Wolfdog again do you use a wet stone to sharpen your knives? It's the best way, it's time consuming , but once you get it sharp, and know enough to touch it up after every use, it's the best. I've seen great quality knives ruined by those cheap sharpeners or grinders. Once you get a quality knife sharp, and touch it up every time you use it, it will last your life time, and could last your grand children's life time if taught how to sharpen a knife.

I have a worksharp and use it only when I need to reshape the edge. After that, it is a whetstone and then leather strop.

I have a worksharp and use it only when I need to reshape the edge. After that, it is a whetstone and then leather strop. There you go, always touch them up with a wet stone. All knives were machine sharpened at first, but only a few know how to get them razor sharp.
