A long time ago my parents bought their way in to a facility in Sun City, Az. Really nice place. In their 60s when they bought in around 2000. Dad was 88 when he passed in 2014. Mom 91, when she passed in Jan. 2024. Mom went into their memory care facility around 2020. They took good care of her. Dementia is what ended her life. Wife and I are 68 and 67. Not ready to make the move. Couldn't possibly tolerate living outside Alaska.............YET! Neither of us want to end up dependent on offspring to care for us in old age. A life care facility seems a good choice at some point in our future. Not too interested in anywhere east of the Mississippi or on the west coast. Assumably you enter still fairly healthy and able to drive. Where would a trapper go.........obviously, trapping is important!!! Quick google searches show places in Wy., Ut., Nv., Ks., Some other states also. Would prefer states that allow the full range of traps/snares. Snow and cold are not a deal breaker, we're Alaskans!! Looking for experiences or hearsay info. I don't know when we would start looking seriously. Maybe we won't know till it's almost too late!! Haha. Thanks in advance.

Don’t count out SD it has a wide range of trapping opportunities in different parts of the state depending what you’re after with less snow of course with a low population of people to deal with. Cost of living is not bad the people are friendly and welcoming. You could live in town for the emergency services and drive out to your trapping opportunities in no time. ROW trapping is allowed but permissions are not hard to secure once the folks get to know a person.
Some areas can be more remote with even fewer people but have less service on hand there so it’s give and take you could aways move closer to town from there to get the feel of what’s out here first. Might find some unused farm house to rent cheap to work out of before the big move to assisted living no rush getting there. Those assisted living ladies can be pretty frisky so be careful. LOL
Drop me a PM if you have any questions or I can be of assistance to you no problem.

My wife and I are purchasing an equity ownership unit. We will pay for the suite upfront, and it will be deeded to us. There will be no rent or non-refundable deposit, but there will be an HOA fee. The facility will include two restaurants, a bank, a medical office, a pool, a cocktail lounge, and several hobby shops. Covered garage for one vehicle.
The property is being developed by my son's father-in-law, and site planning is currently underway. We will be in a rural setting with lots of grounds, veggie gardens, and lovely mountain views.
There is a nice bass and bream pond on the property. Some residents will be in single-family homes, some in duplexes, and the rest of us in a four-story facility. We can enter as healthy individuals and transfer to the critical care wing when needed.
Our kids will inherit the property debt-free in the future. The name is Legacy at Mills River.

I have been thinking building houses or a quad plex specifically for rentals for 55 and over. Wide doors, no steps zero entry tubs and shower with rails. 2x6 walls best insulation available, solar so bills are very low. The boys and I would do all yard work and land scaping. Step it up more my daughter is an lpn so can help with healtcar needs.
I like the idea but the farm may be a little further away from town 7 miles to the grocery further to most medical. But I think there is a market for it.

Are there no places in Alaska where you can find a facility like that?
If there are they are near Anchorage or Mat Su. Not my first choice. I'm not talking about just a building to live in. The place my parents were in was a life care facility. They continued to take care of you as your abilities diminished. Parents medical insurance and Medicare paid the doctor/ hospital bills. We just started looking at this. It's a difficult choice as, to some extent, you buy into the place when you're still mobile. If I'm still mobile I want to be in Alaska!

Assisted living here is you have your own room my in-laws had their car there, meals are provided you come and go as you please unless theres issues that don’t allow that for whatever reason. Some places have group apartments you do everything yourself you just live around others for safety and companionship.

Things don’t get any easier after 70 I don’t know your whole situation but decisions will need to be made while you have options and the abilities to make them happen on your own still. You do what’s best for you just don’t put it off for too long it might come back to bite you if you wait too long.

Gotta make the move when you're still fairly cognitive and able to get around. Hard to know when that is.
