Trotline is the way to go, in need to get one. I just run a dozen small traps.

Gotta up my game i suppose.

All I've ever run is trotlines, lol, probably still got sections from the 1970s in it.
Grandson got bored with trotline, so.ran some traps with him.last year, he was way more excited about it

Pulled about 75-100 pots for five years. Pulled half one day and the other half the next. We used mahi frames for bait. Sometimes blue fish frames from a church fish fry. Finished each morning by 10AM.

Bossman provided bait, fuel, and my dock slip. Used my 19' skiff. I got paid $.50 per 5" male crab, and nothing for females that we sold out of a live tank. That was 15 years ago. One a good morning I made $50. Many days a little less. I also cleaned fish with a team in the afternoons when the charter boats came in. This kept us in bait.

I was retired on disability for depression. Getting outdoors everyday was the key to my recovery. Being around happy people and away from phones, managers, sales quotas, budgets, and unhappy customers was a big help also. Fortunately, I didn't need the money from fish cleaning and crabbing. I would have done it for free. I never paid a dime for fresh-caught seafood. Lots of fringe benefits.

I've never has soft shell crab. How does it compare flavor wise with the picked meat. Do you eat the whole thing but the lungs and guts?

It’s good! Cut off the face. Lift shell and clean out lungs and guts.

Fry up and enjoy!

Stop over cooking your meat! It isn’t gamey, it’s over cooked!

They taste like crab ,you just eat the whole thing minus the guts, face parts and lungs.. usually fried, they'll turn reddish, like a cooked hard shell.
I'll eat a couple per summer, but rather turn them into gold, lol
They are an acquired taste, it's the look of them that freak folks out...

Heck yeah! Good luck Keith, hope you catch enough to almost sink the boat.

Thanks Rob. My friend's bass boat didn't end up almost sinking. I got enough channel cats for a meal for Diane and I and maybe some leftovers.

The strangest thing was that I had 4 Mystery Snails close on my line and get reeled in. 2 of them I caught at the same time, spaced about 1.5" apart. I've never had that happen before. I used to sell huge numbers of Mystery Snails to pet stores for 50 cents each. I made $954.50 on 1 load of snails once.

Keith
