Anyone use or have used the 7-30 Waters cartridge?

Put one together on an Contender action a while back with intentions of it being the daughters deer gun, dialed it in and that's it. Daughter took a shine to my Tikka in 6.5 Creedmoor and the Waters has been sitting sadly in the safe.

Shoots decent, should be plenty of deer gun for typical Michigan woods hunting and has almost no recoil in the laminate stock setup I did.

Anyone played with them? Thinking I may take it to the woods this fall.

I remember when it came out years ago. It was to be a mild mannered deer cartridge named after Ken Waters, a well respected gun writer with Wolfe publishing. Never caught on but a few really liked it. Pretty sure commercial ammo is not loaded today.

Got a Contender barrel in the Waters. It’s fun to shoot, haven’t taken any animals with it yet.

In a TC Contender, the Waters is pure magic.

I have taken antelope out to 350 yards with it and whitetales out to 250.

120 grain Nosler Balistic Tips are my go to bullet.

Great round in a level action. Nosler 120 grain solid base bullet. Old style lead nose. Was changed to a ballistic tip later on.

I was thinking of this one recently. Seems to me that it should be similar to the 6.8 spc considering the parent case is 30/30 and the rimless 30 remington respectively.

I'm familiar with the background. Thats part of the reason I put it together. Seems like it should be a great deer gun.

Loading some 125 BTs may be in order.

I scored a pile of factory ammo when I first got the barrel so I've been saving the brass when I I initially put it together and scoped it up.

I remember seeing a 94 chambered in it years ago and wishing I grabbed it. Back when 94s didnt cost an arm and a leg

I have two pistol barrels plus a 23” carbine in 7-30. Have taken deer in NC with each. Picked up my first pistol after rotator cuff surgery. Shot from my weak side off sand bags. Piece of cake.
