Hummingbird migration is going strong and the yard is full of birds. Neighbor had a Salvia plant they were feeding on and let me set up my camera and take a few pics.

If you zoom in on the last pic you can see how the plants are allowing the hummingbirds to become pollinators.

These are either female or immature Ruby-throated. Should be the same as what you have.

I have two feeders out for them and they drain them twice a week !! Can sit out and watch and listen to them for hours

Only one thing, I cannot keep praying mantis's away from them, have pics of them taking them down and being all over the feeders

I like the Manti's just don't like them bothering the birds,, any one else have this problem ??

I have not seen any hummingbirds here this year. Usually I see at least some.

My feeders hang from coated trapping wire about a foot down from the eave of the porch. Never saw a mantis on one. Many mantis are in the field next to the house. Would love to see a picture of you could post one

We have used almost 60 pounds of sugar this year. There are always 7 and up to 14 feeders out from april to september on the deck and in yard. It is really cool how friendly some of them get to be.

I’ve seen videos of the Mantis hunting them, it’s crazy. You must have a different species as ours don’t get big enough to catch a hummer.
Post pics if you can.

Great pics.

For whatever reason, we had a lot less hummingbirds around here this year. Talked to several friend and family who said the same thing.

Had kind of a weird spring locally where it went from spring to summer almost overnight, so maybe they shifted farther north or something.

I live in town, so they aren't thick like skeeters, but they hang out in my flowers and are seen every few days around the feeders. This year only a few times all summer.

We have one feeder out and the drain it every other day now. Lots of hummingbirds here this year, more than in years past. I think they are swarming here getting ready to leave, but the numbers started increasing a few weeks ago. We had several all summer but nothing like now.

Very nice pictures. Amazing to catch the wings fast enough to see the feathers.

We have 3 feeders, those little gals are territorial as all get out.
