I attended the Foundation for Wildlife Management wolf summit and the following week attended Coyote Days. Some of the conversations turned to grizzly populations in Idaho, Montana and Wyoming and the future of wolf trapping and hunting in those states. All three states have more than enough grizzlies to delist. And all three have wolf seasons.

But it seems federal judges are the impediment to delisting grizzlies. And our wolf trapping/hunting seems to always be one pen stroke from being a memory.

How did we get to the point that federal judges have so much authority over wildlife management practices? And their decisions are rarely grounded in science and sound management practices.

Trail cameras and fresh snow have broke a lot of trapper’s hearts.

"Black's Law". Research it. It establishes a doctrine that allows you to successfully argue that 2+2=5.
It (Black's) is the main problem with our legal system.

Fear of ridicule, being ostracized and being physically harmed used to keep judges following the Constitution. Sadly there are few to no hard consequences for making bad judgements anymore.

The quality of the judiciary has in fact declined considerably but you have no idea what you are talking about.

Judge Black pretty much came up with how we rationalize legal arguments. The problem with it is that it isn't very rational.

Forgive me, I've only done this gig for almost 30 years. Who is this all powerful Judge Black?

Maybe I missed that class.

I appear in front of judges here in Oklahoma but also in other states. I'll say it again, the quality of judge has dropped off in red cities/states and blue cities/states. Everywhere. Same for juries. But it is also true for the ones writing the laws.

I can't wait to retire.

The Left, liberals, Democrats, whatever you want to call them, have used the courts for decades to dictate their agenda in states where they've had little to no luck in legislating. The Center for Biological Diversity is one if not the biggest animal rights/environmentalist organizations that file suits all over the country, with their local satellite groups. They have a huge team of lawyers (upwards of 50) and total assets of nearly 47 million dollars.

They've been so successful in this racket that the mere threat of litigation from the CBD and its coalition has dictated senseless wildlife management policy in far too many states.

The Endangered Species Act of 1973 was passed by the United States Congress, with the Senate unanimously approving the bill on July 24, 1973, and the House passing it on September 18, 1973, by a vote of 390-12.
After a joint conference committee reconciled the versions, the final legislation was approved by both chambers and signed into law by President Richard Nixon on December 28, 1973.

Who armed the lawyers?

And here is the latest lawsuit from the Center for Biological Diversity in its weaponization of the ESA -- https://biologicaldiversity.org/programs/biodiversity/pdfs/241-species-complaint.pdf

The CBD is bound and determined to show that the ESA has been the most ineffective piece of legislation in US history by preventing delistings across the board and wanting to add another 500 species to the list. The ESA has been a cash cow for the animal-rights lawyers and their organizations who have profited to the tune of billions of dollars. This is lawfare at its worst.
