I have always used coil spring traps and dogproofs for coon, but I acquired a bunch of jump traps this year and I am wondering what the thoughts were on them. They are #1-#2's I believe. I would possibly be using some without drowners if the chance arises. Thanks

I like jump traps but can’t say I ever set them deliberately for raccoon. I’ve held plenty in them, 1s, 1 1/2s and 2s incidental to muskrat trapping. I certainly wouldn’t be afraid to use a strong 1 1/2 for coon in a non drowning set but would prefer to get them into deep water to drown, as I would prefer with any foot trap other than a DP.

Trail cameras and fresh snow have broke a lot of trapper’s hearts.

Id run them on drowners for raccoons. The #1s are a bit small for my tastes for raccoon.

They are a bit awkward to set when you're waist deep in the water.

Wouldn't replace your coils with them but if you run out or want to be nostalgic, I wouldn't worry too much about using them.

[Linked Image] This is important to remember.

The smaller jump traps are perfect for rat poles too if you have any to attempt to catch....
