Always wondered what made this rock hard castor so special.

Well, I have 2 or 3 sets of barkstone castors that I saved from last spring's beavers. I jarred them seperate and haven't opened any of them since...until this week....I opened one jar. I was able to chip a few pieces off one castor "rock" and place it on mound that a beaver had made. Poured a little juice from swamp water mixed in the jar on the mound too. The beaver knocked the snare down last night and covered up the scent...which is nothing unusual, but....

What was unusual is that I cannot wash that odor off my hands....it is extremely pungent....more so than any castor I've ever smelled. Thank goodness it don't stink!

Interesting, never heard of it and had to look it up. I’m gonna keep an eye out while putting up beaver.

I can say I’ve never caught a beaver with stones…idk what causes it but it must not be a thing in the area I trap.

Very interesting. I’ve never caught a beaver with “bark stone castor”.

I've made lure with barkstone castor a few times. I always felt that it had more of a potent smell after aging, but it could have been in my head. I never noticed a difference in catch rate when using it, so even if it was louder, it didn't seem to matter.

I usually get at least one every year. Never used one for lure...with that weight I always just sold them.

Get a little condiment dispensing bottle with a lid, like one of the ketchup bottles at a diner. Add a little bark castor to the bottle, add swamp water as required and give the castor mound a shot. Find the castor lasts a longtime and catch rate stays the same.
