This one was about 15 yards from my nieces play ground, right in town. He was braver than he ought to have been, and paid for it. My brother-in-law caught him in an old #4 jump.

Nothing like a grudge catch....Remember a coyote ripping up a small dog's rear end to the tune of 60 stitches that made my kids cry.

Called him up that afternoon...Dumped 3" mag loads of birdshot into it's rear end, and let it dance a while before finishing it off.

Hung it in the fencerow, and didn't see another coyote around the house for years.

Not yotes but evened a score with some feral canines that chased my 3 and 4 year olds on the porch.

Get the US out of the UN and the UN out of the US.

Had feral dogs in NY that would growl at my wife when she opened the back door. Took the growl out of 'em! That was 50 or so years ago , caught some later they were absolutely fearless. When the coyotes showed up the dogs were gone!?

I am way more concerned about a pack of wild dogs than I am of coyotes.
I had two encounters with them.

1) I was trapping an area for raccoons when I encountered a pack of wild dogs. we spotted each other at the very same time, all of us locked up to come up with a plan.
All I was armed with was a 5 gallon bucket. I didn't have many options.
Two of them growled and begun to scamper my way. Before I could make a move, the biggest one which was holding back, giving the stinkeye, yipped.
Ater that single yip, they all reversed direction and headed in the direction of where I had some snares in a well-worn trail.
As luck would have it, the first one got hung up in it and fought it like a turpentined wildcat. A yard dog would have just sat down.
Next thing I know, another dog came to its rescue and tried to bit the cable off.
Don't get me wrong, a coyote near the house gets no reprieve, but a pack of wild dogs can be more of a threat than a coyote sniffing around.

2) I can't share the account of the other encounter with the second pack of wild dogs. Too graphic for the children I suspect.

Last October our dog died and the coyotes got brave. Have always heard them 200 or so yards from the house. Never trap close to the house as don't want to catch one of our dogs or cats. January woke early, looked out the front window and a coyote is 30 yards away trailing the ground like a dog. Set two traps and caught four in two weeks within 150 yards of the house. Got a puppy last week but it will be awhile before she can keep them at a distance.

Neighbor has sheep. Had a couple dogs kill/maim over a dozen of them in one day. He doesn’t own a gun and asked me to help out. Told him I wouldn’t kill someone’s dog unless I caught it in the act. Didn’t take long until the problem was solved by another neighbor who rolled up on them with a couple ewes down.

The coyotes got very thick a couple years ago and started coming into the yard after my male lab. That is what got me to start coyote trapping and join this site. I caught 23 the first year with a mile or a bit more of my house. 15 more last year.

I don’t know who this guy is but I hope he stays out of my footholds this year. First time I ever saw a dog on my trail camera…which I’m about ready to ditch. Story for another thread

Once in awhile one will come down by the house and start carrying on at night. Guess they think they’re safe in the dark. Pulsar proves them wrong every time.

it's a little like chicken coops , the best defense is good trapping.

trap early and trap often , they don't belong in your backyard or circling your chicken coup or swing set, be they racoon , possum , skunk or coyote

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
