What eveyone favorite seeds/plants for doing little no till those and grow food plots ?

No plow from Whitetail institute is what I use best if you have some rain or watering capabilities around the planting times, add whatever the soil needs in your area fertilizer and lime wise do a soil test if your not sure. Local seed providers might be cheaper and provide better options if one’s near you.

You can frost seed clover on short mown pasture....if you have any freezing weather...or scattered oats will take with some rain, if you can keep the birds off it

Mixes of oats, Winter wheat, annual clover, turnips, rape seed, radishes and lettuce work well because all are highly palatable to deer and can grow through existing plants somewhat.

Funny story that actually what we used to use but dies so easy when it gets swarm was hoping for something that might stay round most of the year if possible

Yeah that's what I was thinking , figured it would be cheaper to find out what would be good stuff to grow and just buy it vs whatevers in the bags branded for deer hunters lol

Wolfdog, Thanks for all the tips, pictures, and communications you have added through the years. takes time and effort to do what you have done. So if I can recycle any help with the "throw and grow" I will share mine. Yellow Blossom Sweet Clover here. Plant Mid to late summer using hand held broadcast spreader, shred (you can use a riding lawn mower if no shredder) the top cover (weeds, harvested garden/vegetable crop, post sweet corn crop, etc.), drive on it with whatever Heavy Piece of Equipment you have to compact the seed to the soil (car, truck, tractor etc.) BACK AND FORTH. Sweet clover is a tiny seed biennial and will come up in the fall, overwinter and flower in early summer here. In MS there is probably a similar clover if Sweet Clover is not common or recommended for your climate/soil. I have no-tilled my gardens for 15 years using cover crops seeded on the surface for about 10 yrs..Used turnips, grazing radishes, cereal rye, a variety of clovers etc. AFTER I harvested my sweet corn crop. Packing the seed to the undisturbed soil is the key to a good stand right before a rainfall event. It works wonders for the fall deer munching and any legumes fix some N2 that was used up by the corn. There are compatible registered herbicides for both sweet clover and sweet corn so if you "park the plow" for 3-5 yrs. you will see a marked improvement in the organic matter and health of the soil. White clover works well for me to get something oing , then work in millet and field peas and such. Rye grows easy here and reseeds itsels great but it gets ergot bad so we are getting rid of it eventually

Spent 3 days in MO working on food plots unfortunately still not enough rain to get the ball rolling yet. It’s been going south of where we need it just need a good downpour.
