Total bs

Anyone with cognitive horsepower to tie their own shoes knows that there aren't going to be any hogs in regions with real winters.

If they were going to do it, they would have done it already.

So what you're saying is that Canada doesnt have real winters . .? They are fairly well established in Alberta and Saskatchewan already...I didnt know they needed to come south to find real winters. We also had pockefs of them in Michigans UP until erradicated using judas pigs. They can handle a whole lot more winter than you are giving them credit for.

Jump on a snowmobile and cut a track, that'll be the end of any hog in a state with real winter. With thermal drones being reasonably affordable it shouldn't be to hard to locate them.

Not that it's big number, but they estimate about 6000 in Saskatchewan.
I know a few guys that have killed one or two while deer hunting.

We have real winter. I'd delete that cognitive remark. lol

From what I've read, those pigs have a higher dose of Russian/ European wild boar genetics, winter, deep snow is not a problem....and I use slip ons now, but still remember how to tie a bow....

All ferals contain those genetics. Given enough generations in the wild even the most barnyard looking pigs eventually will produce piglets that look for all the world like a wild european one. Down here they can range from barnyard to wild looking, I imagine the harder the environment the more selection for wild type.

The only thing I believe that's kept them out of this part of Iowa is the lack of cover in the winter, it doesn't take much but from here to the Dakota's there's only a 3 strand barbwire fence and two of those are broke.

There was a lot of scare talk around here back when hogs started getting thick here. The worry was that there would be crosses with Russian hogs resulting in "superpigs". Kinda made a bit of sense at the time because pretty much every group of hogs that you found was deliberately released by people hoping to get groups of them established throughout the state.

Talked to the USDA guy at the OSTA convention over the weekend and they said they hardly get to do hogs anymore and when they do it's only a few pigs, not the big herds of years ago
