This is an urgent cry for help from the mole afficionados on this site. I am a coyote trapper whose honor and dignity rest in your hands. I am getting a lot of condemnation from the home front on my lack of mole capture etc
I have gone full caddy shack with 22 gas bombs, 5 gal gasoline every bait and even chewing gum as advised by snickering family members. I thought you were a big time trapper Yada Yada. These sucker's tunnels are deep about 12 to 15 inches underground before they push up the mound I have tried pincher type traps to no avail. I have 4 to 6 mounds every other day and the yard looks like a mine field. PLEASE ADV ISE CAPTURE OR TERMINATION techniques. The missus says it's either me or the moles. find her a new man, probably one of you pro mole guys HELP

I would dig down to the deep tunnels and open them up. I use trapline traps for all my mole work. Set a trap one facing each direction back to back so to speak. Just far apart enough that when one fires it doesnt interfere with the other. Open set jaws facing the opposite directions. If they are active runs you should catch over nite. If not you will need to find another tunnel to set.

Some of those mounds will have runs that lead down at an angle to the main runs. I have set Trapline traps on those tapered runs from the surface once they are found and caught the moles there also. Particularly if it is a newly developing cleanout tunnel mound.

You can set O/S traps also if you don't have the trapline traps. it is a little more work to set them. Maybe find a Youtube video to help with them being set.

Got some mole reapers but must not be setting them up right. Don't have shallow tunnels what is the best way to
set them with these deep tunnels

Dig down and set them the exact same way you would on a shallow run. Take your time and make sure that you dig as little as possible to get the trap down in the run. Do all of this while the trap is not set. Then use setters to set them like in my videos. Makes no difference if it’s a shallow run or a deep run. Did you buy them from me?

Another thing…I’m not a huge fan of using a probe but they do have their place. In this instance a probe might be beneficial to probe along and hard surfaces (foundation, sidewalk, along and under fence lines, and low spots in the yard that may retain moisture longer than other spots.

Ideally surface tunnels are much easier to set on. One way to get them to the surface is to set up a sprinkler on an area they may be working and let it run for several hours. Soak the ground. This helps draw worms and other bugs to the surface and the moles will follow. Then they may create some surface tunnels to set on.

Carl Spackler thinks you need more explosives. Preferably shaped like a mole.

I have been running Mole Reaper’s for most of the summer and they have performed quite well for me, including a number of sets in deep tunnel runs in the 8” - 12” range. I typically set the shallow runs just as Tony details in his videos by setting the traps after placing them in the tunnel, but for the deep runs I have been setting the traps prior to placing them. I still try to only dig an opening as close as possible to the width of the trap, but I open it up further back to create room for me to more easily position the trap and create an area of loose fill to allow the trap to fully fire. Has worked well for me.

Hopefully that description makes sense.
